    Hi all,

Getting really close to quit date and I just wanted to make sure of something. I put Jan 31st. Now that is the last day I can smoke, right??? I plan to smoke up till midnight Jan 31st, then have Feb 1st my first day not smoking. I just want to make sure or then I have to change my quit date to Feb.1st. Needless to say, my anxiety is quite bad. Thanks.

    Butterflyna,

My quit date was January 01 - that being my first smoke free day. I want to remember the day I became free of the addiction of smoking, not celebrate the last day of my addiction.

You've set you quit date, you've planned and prepared, now you're ready to start being smoke free. You can quit smoking. You'll have some rough days ahead of you, but before long you will look back and be glad you did it.

Good luck and we are all here rooting for you and ready to help out.

    Hi butterfly,

The choice is yours.  What day to use, or whether to smoke or not, the choice is yours.

Like atp mentions, I would rather celebrate the day we quit ie. don't smoke rather than the last day we did.  I think of it like a birthday - we don't celebrate our last day in the womb, we celebrate the day are born, given life, freedom, and consciousness (see what I did there!!!!! lol)

I honestly woke this morning and one of my first thoughts was today is butterfly's quit date.  Hope you don't mind, but I said a little prayer for you while driving to work.  Not trying to put additional pressure on you, just to let you know that your friends here are all thinking of you.

Let us know how things are going.

    Hi atp and efreeman75,

You both are so right. I changed my quit date to Feb 1st. My first day free of smoking. I like the way you both word it ... "I think of it like a birthday - we don't celebrate our last day in the womb, we celebrate the day are born, given life, freedom, and consciousness"...." I want to remember the day I became free of the addiction of smoking, not celebrate the last day of my addiction. " Thank you both so much. Issue settled. My first day clean of cigarettes! My new birth! I love it!

    Hi butterflyna, atp, and efreeman75,

Congratulations on setting a quit date and taking the steps to becoming smoke-free!

butterflyna, I believe it may be helpful to consider setting a date in a manner that works for you, as efreeman75 shared. If you smoke on January 31, but then stop smoking that day, you may consider this your quit date. If you choose to see your quit date as February 1, no one will tell you otherwise! The choice is definitely yours.

As atp and efreeman75 shared, they chose a quit date as the first day they were free of smoking (and it sounds as though the birthing analogy was helpful for you making a choice).

Best of luck and keep us updated on your progress! Again, congratulations!

    Warmly,
    Kate R
