Taking your smoking outdoors exclusively is a change that many of our clients make while on their quit journey. It may sound like a small change, but it has some mighty benefits:
    - smoking outdoors becomes slightly more inconvenient, as the pack & ashtray are no longer at an arm’s reach.
    - It can help implement a delay, especially during the cold or rainy season. Before bundling up in coats or grabbing the umbrella, clients often will think, “do I really want to go outside to smoke?”
    - Reduces second hand and third hand smoke in your home or vehicle.
    - Clients have even decided to take it one step further: choosing a spot outdoors where there are no chairs to sit on, making it less desirable to stand while smoking.

Do you/did you smoke outside exclusively? Any tips or suggestions how you transitioned your smoking from the indoors to the outdoors?

    Good morning everyone,

Quite a heavy frost here this morning, and I am really glad that I wasn't standing outside shivering to have a smoke.  Bad weather days used to stress me as I was constantly debating between staying warm and dry inside OR getting cold and wet outside to grab a smoke.  It's much nicer to enjoy the bad weather days from inside.

    Hi Sarah,

I think that taking your smoking from inside to outside exclusively is a HUGE change.  I grew up at a time when everyone smoked inside, and I did the same thing during my life.  I am in an apartment, and there was no way I would ever have even considered making that kind of change.  But of course, I couldn't cut down, either.  For me, it was all or nothing.  Quit, or don't quit, but nothing in between.

If someone decides to change from smoking indoors to smoking outdoors exclusively, I say all the power to them.  If nothing else, it will probably reduce the amount they smoke drastically.  And that's a step in the right direction.
