I just had my last cigarette. Tomorrow is my quit day. I’ve been through this before. I know I can do it. Whatever I go through, I will find a healthy and more effective way to deal with it. This is who I want to be. I want to be the person whose life isn’t dictated by cigarettes. I want to be healthy, mentally strong, and free. It’s easy to always say tomorrow so I’ll wake up in the morning and say “No matter what, I am not going to smoke today. This is the beginning of a new chapter.” Smoking doesn’t make me feel good about myself. It doesn’t provide hope for my future. It doesn’t strengthen relationships. Quitting takes nothing from me and only gives. It’s tough but so am I.

    Hi Quitfriend,

Congratulations on starting your quit today!!

I know it isn't always easy but I really admire all of the self talk you are using. There can be so much value in the way we speak to ourselves until that craving passes.

You've done this before and you can do it again!

Wishing you all the best in your quit journey,
    Emily

In the past while I’ve had lots of “practice quits”. I’m hoping that today is the real thing. I still don’t feel confident. The last post I was all positive self-talk. Today is different. Just trying to get through one craving at a time. That’s probably more productive. Take action and celebrate when I get through one. I had a really tough one today. I did some deep breathing and did something different. I was proud. The thought of more tough ones makes me nervous. I don’t want to fail. I know the freedom of smoking being a non-issue is a really good feeling. One minute I’m determined and the next I feel weak. I’m having a weak moment. Going to go do something productive and wait for it to pass.

Thanks Sarah. I really appreciate the support.
I’ve been reading through past posts and saw that I’m not alone in my multiple quit attempts. No reason to beat myself up. I’m trying and that means I’m moving in the right direction.
Today is another one of my many first days. I’m grateful that the cravings have just been brief moments and haven’t turned into a whole thing in my head. “That’s a craving. How am I going to deal with this one?” If I get ahead of myself that’s a trigger for me. I’m so used to planning my next cigarette.
Having a rough moment right now. Deep breath. That’s not a surprise when I consider that I’m used to doing the same thing 20 times a day.
