What I did yesterday to keep active and distracted:

After work, I immediately put on a pair of long-johns & wool socks, and bundled-up before bringing my pooch over to the local dog park.  It was cold and windy, but I had a nice hot coffee to keep me toasty on the inside.

Dexter (my dog) appreciated it, because he loves the dog park.
It was good for me too - because the only exercise I get at home is typing at the keyboard, or walking downstairs to raid the fridge.  :O
While I'm at the park, I always force myself to run around with Dexter as much as possible, not just for his benefit - but to get a little needed exercise myself too!

    OK - Your turn:
What did YOU do yesterday to keep active and distracted??

Actually Jim, every day this week after work I went out shopping and the like.  Tuesday I made 3 separate trips out.  I did that on purpose to keep myself moving, because I desperately need to lose some weight since I quit smoking.

I am also trying to move around more at work, and when I put my lunch in the microwave to heat up, I dance while I wait for it.

I can't do as much as I would like to do because I was badly injured years ago, but I make a conscious effort to do what I can, when I can.  Every little bit helps.

What I did today to keep distracted:

Today, like most weekdays, I went to work 9am thru 5pm - and stuck to the general routine associated with a typical workday.
Once I returned home, I found myself in front of the computer, and was just about ready to settle into binge watching a few episodes of my favourite TV series...

Thankfully, my dog walked into the room - and looked at me with those sad eyes, expressing that he'd been left alone all day while I was at work.  This was about all it took for me to slip my shoes back on and drag my lazy butt over to the off-leash dog park so he (and I) could burn off a little energy.

I find myself back in front of the computer this evening, a little tuckered-out, but definitely feeling better about how I wrapped-up another hectic day without eating chocolate covered almonds while binge-watching some program.

    How about all of YOU?
What did YOU do today to keep distracted / and active??

Hi Buttingout.  This morning for the first time, I rode the stationary bike for an hours and did some weights.  I used to bike in the evening at least 5 days a week but at the beginning of September I moved and my commute became 4 hours of driving a day, getting up at 4:40am.  By the time I would arrive home, I was bagged.  I just started a new job that is closer but still not getting home until 6pm.  I was finding excuses not to exercise and that causes me to feel depressed.  My goal is to do my workout in the mornings now.

    Hello Everyone,

Your days seem full of activity! So nice doing your favourite things while moving around.

    Great discussion to have daily.

Wow lithan44, I can't believe you had such a long drive, and that you had to get up before the birds.  Yikes!  I hope your commute is significantly better now.

Good for you for exercising regularly.  My main form of exercise is walking, but I even have to be careful about how much of that I do, otherwise I hurt myself.  But I am now very aware of the weight I have gained, and I am determined to stay as active as I can.  I also try to stretch at home, so that I don't stiffen up too much.

    Hey Lithan44 and Treepeo;
Glad to see you both jumping aboard this post!

...Reading about the stationary bike got me to thinking about the brand-new (never used) treadmill I have in my basement, next to the laundry room.
I suppose I really have NO excuse for not walking / jogging around the block during the icy winter days since that thing is sitting downstairs - calling my name!

I guess I better get down there and start doing my thing, so I can add that to my daily "HEALTHY DISTRACTIONS" diary!
...Wish me luck - and pray that I don't get distracted by the TV on the way to the laundry room!  :O

You mean you don't have a TV in your basement?  Gasp, so shocking!  He, he, he.

You should bring your phone and headsets down with you so you can listen to some great music while you walk.

I went to the grocery store after work and had to battle against the wind.  It just made me realize that if I want to keep doing the amount of walking I have been doing lately, I will probably have to do a lot of it inside, because I really hate fighting the wind.  It is so irritating.
