Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice. I am smoking for the past 7 to 8 years, and now it scares me a bit. I just want to quit, but I can't control my temptation. What can I do about this? I am thinking to get help from some rehab. Can someone suggest me a few good ones? I came across this addiction center in Toronto. Does anyone have any experience with them? Please help me out with your suggestions. Thank you.

    Ryan,

If you go to the top of the web page these is a tab for FIND LOCAL SUPPORT

You can also call the smokers helpline to talk to someone.

Hi Ryan, glad that you're here!

As atp mentioned, you can find local resources on our Quitmap. If you're in the Toronto area, CAMH's Nicotine Dependence Clinic is highly regarded.

Phone support in Ontario is provided through Telehealth at 1-866-797-0000. They may be able to direct you to additional resources in your community.

As for ways to control your temptation, you'll find plenty of ideas in this forum. I'd recommend taking time to practice and experiment with coping strategies before you actually quit, and the 4Ds are a good place to start: Delay, Distract, Deep Breathing, and Drinking Water.

Depending on how often you smoke, it may also help to explore nicotine replacement therapy options with your healthcare provider, as these can lessen the physical temptation and withdrawal symptoms.

Please keep us posted on how you're doing! We are here for you.

    Hope this helps,
    Efram
