Funny thing about quitting smoking, it doesn't take too long for us to start to notice how sad of an addiction it is. Within a few days of quitting our sense of smell improves and we can smell how awful stale smoke smells on all the smokers and everything else such as jackets, cars, garages, etc. But then we start to notice other things.

This weekend it was at the grocery store parking lot - guy having a smoke beside his car, kid's in the car seat, he's trying to keep his kid consoled and waves to the kid. Been there done that.

Or the group of people I see out the window in front of the restaurant on Saturday -  all huddled together with no jackets on having a quick smoke between appetizers and mains - oops, the mains arrived and the other people at the table started eating.

The sales rep at the autoshow on Saturday who came over see if i had any questions about the truck I was sitting in, and the smell of stale smoke coming off of her was overwhelming. I can't imagine how many times I did that myself to a non-smoker.

Last week I was at the garage waiting for my vehicle. Another fellow who just dropped off his vehicle asks if I have a light. Sorry I don't. He looks agitated and walks off towards the bus stop where a few people are waiting to try to get a light. Meanwhile, I sat there relaxed and warm.

It's all these little things I now start to take note of. Kind of my way of making me feel better about my own quit.

    Hi atp,

You bring up so many good points.

I remember well all the times I was out to dinner and had to excuse myself to have a smoke.  I felt like a real loser standing out in the dark all by myself.  And to make matters worse, I didn't wear my coat outside so that I would not draw undue attention to myself walking through the restaurant.  So I froze like an idiot as well.

I went to my sister's place for a visit yesterday.  She smokes inside her apartment, just the same way that I used to.  Her place was so smoky it was incredible.  And when I got home, my clothes reeked of smoke as well.  It makes me so embarrassed that I used to subject other people to my smoky stench.  Yikes.

It's very liberating not to have to worry about that kind of stuff any more, isn't it?

That's another good reason to want to quit, treepeo! That feeling of not wanting to draw attention to yourself from the smell of smoke on your clothes. Quitting provides that confidence and freedom!

The longer one abstains from smoking, the more sensitive your sense of smell becomes. This is positive reminder of what smoking does to your personal space.

Keep up the good work you guys!

Very Important point of the Quit!

When you start seen others smoking ones you quit is a challenge! That is why you must have your will power high!
An other point, when you look around you as a smoker and you quit, shirts, sweaters with holes, All your room smell like crap, the walls at your home, the furniture, the  bathroom etc.

With out taken in consideration the money you spend on it.

WE are Non Smokers, we know what was before, not anymore! This is the way!
