Funny thing about quitting smoking, it doesn't take too long for us to start to notice how sad of an addiction it is. Within a few days of quitting our sense of smell improves and we can smell how awful stale smoke smells on all the smokers and everything else such as jackets, cars, garages, etc. But then we start to notice other things.
This weekend it was at the grocery store parking lot - guy having a smoke beside his car, kid's in the car seat, he's trying to keep his kid consoled and waves to the kid. Been there done that.
Or the group of people I see out the window in front of the restaurant on Saturday - all huddled together with no jackets on having a quick smoke between appetizers and mains - oops, the mains arrived and the other people at the table started eating.
The sales rep at the autoshow on Saturday who came over see if i had any questions about the truck I was sitting in, and the smell of stale smoke coming off of her was overwhelming. I can't imagine how many times I did that myself to a non-smoker.
Last week I was at the garage waiting for my vehicle. Another fellow who just dropped off his vehicle asks if I have a light. Sorry I don't. He looks agitated and walks off towards the bus stop where a few people are waiting to try to get a light. Meanwhile, I sat there relaxed and warm.
It's all these little things I now start to take note of. Kind of my way of making me feel better about my own quit.
