   Today is the beginning.   I have had a health scare, and know smoking is a major contributor,    I am tired of feeling tired, tired of aching, tired of not being able to breathe when I walk, and tired of dreading a staircase. This morning I put on a patch.   I want to beat this more than anything, as I have things I want to do in the next couple of years and need to be healthier to enjoy the goals.
   
   Cigarettes are on my mind all morning....I am hopeful by coming to this place I can read the support and encouragement of others, and congratulate them in their success.

   Good luck Kellie! I hit a rough patch and feel like a hippocrite to offer words of support but… keep your goal in mind! Don’t give in to the urge and fight harder! You can do it!!!

   Congratulations on taking the step to become smoke free. Quitting smoking is the best thing that you can do for your health. Sounds like this is a very important decision for you. The forums are a great place to find some helpful encouragement and tips from others on similar journeys. You can do this!

   Thank you Karen.   It is so important, yet will be so hard!  The support of this community I am sure will help, as I don't have any support close by.   Kind of on my own with this one.

   the first while is hard. But it does get easier as time goes by. 
   I used the patch and found drinking water out of a straw cup really helped 
   Take it one day at a time and reward yourself

   Good luck Kellie, and I'll be cheering you on. I was on this forum back in September, and I was smoke free for 3 weeks, which was the longest I ever made it before. I slipped, and now I'm back again, more determined than ever, to kick the habit for good. The forums here are very helpful, and I hope you read the posts, and reply to some, because it helps to know everyone is on some point in their journey to a smoke free life. I'll be cheering you on!

   Glad to hear you're feeling confident, and you're absolutely right......one day at a time. That's how I look at it too....and sometimes hourly!!

   Hi Kellie, After 40 years of smoking, I am now 43 days in smoke free. I didn’t think I could do it, but I did. You can too. Sometimes I get an urge but I won’t give in! I HATE the disgusting habit. It’s dirty, filthy and I want to be a non smoker period. Just keep reminding yourself about all the good things to look forward to. You are not giving anything up, on the contrary. You are gaining so much…

    Hi Kellie62,
    
    I know it's hard to quit, but it is so worth the effort.  You will be able to breathe so much better.  You will climb a flight of stairs and you won't be gasping when you get to the top.  You will smell good, and you won't have to worry about having bad breath.  You won't have to step outside in inclement weather and try to find a place where you can light up.  And the list goes on.
    
    Drink lots of water, and do things to distract yourself.  Write a list of all the reasons why you want to quit, and read it often.  And have faith in yourself.  You are stronger than your addiction.  Believe in yourself!

    Hello.  My quit date is the 14th.  This is the first time I have been excited about quitting.  Looks like an awesome website.
