Today is a brand new day full of endless possibilities. Yesterday is gone and we cannot change it. Tomorrow has yet to come and it will take care of itself. We have only today and each day starts a new page in our quit story…a blank page to write on our quit journey…our road to success. You are the author of your own quit story. What will you write on today’s blank page to make it a wonderful day?

i have been trying to quit for 27 years and have heard the same things to do to help myself. i have tried these ideas only to give up. i am doing things differently this time instead of trying i am applying the 4d and practice this on a daily routine. practicing so it becomes like breathing attomatic. i find this is really helping me. so far so good. i am coming up on my first month and feel really good. i read the post on the forum to get more ideas and take in peoples ideas that help themselves and use this also. i also do things that i know that works for me. and i tell myself at the end of the day i made it through another day. a pat on the back and also go over what is helping me. so when times get hard i can think of the tools that will help me get through stress craving and thoughts.one day at a time one moment at a time

    Good Afternoon,

Another way to put this is today is the first day of the rest of your life. Deciding what I would like that to look like is very important and it starts immediately. I have a five year plan that has no place for cigarettes so what I put on paper for today is activities that I enjoy and there is no concern for lost smoking time.

Congratulations cec57 on your progress. Nice work! That pat on the back is well deserved. The 4d approach works for me too. I keep very busy with a whole raft of activities that initially came under the category of distractions and now are an integral part of my life enjoyment.

Wishing everyone another smoke free day.

    cec57,

You got it; practice is the key. A lifestyle change is not going to happen overnight, even though we would like it to. And it takes getting used to as well. But 1 month in is a huge accomplishment. You certainly deserve those back pats you have been giving yourself on a daily basis. Taking it ODAAT too is great, because it avoids thinking of the daunting big-picture.

eagerquit - I love this perspective! You highlight how we see ourselves as non-smokers which can be an important part of quitting. In contrast to cec57, you prefer to think long-term big-picture in order to keep going. This is awesome too because of this visualization of self. To each his own.

This just goes to show that even though there are so many ideas we can get from others out there, we each have to cater our plan to what will work for ourselves. Each having our own blank page to create.

    Best,

    Jenna Lee

The day we quit smoking is the start of a better life.  It is day one.  Each day thereafter that we do not smoke is another Day Won.

Here's to many, many, many Day Won's.
