    Good Morning!

For those who are new here, you may be wondering about this forum. It can be a few different things for this community and its members. It can be an area to come to to pledge your goal for the day. In the past, community members have come here to commit to not smoking for just one day, one hour or one minute and having it in black and white helped them to keep going.  They would start off, "It is January 1, 2023 and I pledge to remain smoke free for this day and I support the next person who pledges and shares in this goal today." It can be an area where you share in some of the challenges you face in your day as you work on this goal, "getting through my morning coffee right now and no cig"  or it can be a place to share an inspirational quote or celebrate another day of success. This a more succinct version of the "my journey" forum.

We welcome ideas for this forum and what the community members need from it, but for the newbies, I wanted to provide a bit of an overview. This a simple goal but a difficult one to achieve. We are here to help you through it.

    Happy 2023 and Welcome,
Lillian and the Smokers' Helpline Team

After 40+ years of smoking I am now 7 days smoke free. It is not easy but I have one thing I need to share. Every time I think of smoking I chant “I hate cigarettes “. I repeat this over and over… and I REALLY hate cigarettes!!! I told my wife the other day that I feel ashamed and embarrassed for being a smoker. I guess I just keep thinking about all the bad stuff that comes with that disgusting habit. I keep cutting it up, talking it down, l will do or say ANYTHING to avoid a relapse!!!

    Hiya jimydrmz!

I am so sorry that we missed your post. It sounds like reviewing your reasons, for you the distasteful aspect of them really works. You get your commitment super strong that way. Perhaps we could start a list, "Why I hate smoking", maybe we can get a top 20 list?

Cheers jimydrmz, thanks so much for sharing this tip!
    Lillian
