Hi. I’m starting a journey journal. Not sure where to start. I’ve smoked for 48yrs. My health is dicey at best. I want to live for my Partner and my Daughter. Where to start?

Hello lil_duckie, and welcome to the discussion forums. You're wondering where to start and that's a great question. Sometimes journey's begin with small steps, like signing up for support here and posting about your reasons for quitting. Talking about it, solidifying your reasons in your mind, keeping a journal are all great steps, so congratulations on the steps you've taken so far.

As for next steps, this could be a good time to explore some of the information on this site, get more support in place, think about some of the specifics of how and when to quit, and start making those changes for the better.

    Wishing you much success!

Well done for taking the first steps and all the best to you on your journey... and remember that... it really is a 'journey'. Know that you are not alone and everyone on here understands you. Im a week into this latest quit of mine and whats helping me this time is I had made my mind up to be done with the beast. Mind over Matter is half the battle. Keep smiling.. Keep going.

Good evening. Yes I Quit on the 1st     I’m on day 2 now, and am feeling like I’m definitely not going to get there at all.   But you see, I MUST QUIT if I intend to live.  Full stop. I’ve had an absolute awful day. Feel quite stoned and have a terrible headache.   Im hoping that by putting this “out there in the universe “ of helpful people I’ll really feel better about facing tomorrow.  Im going to go watch the hockey game then bed.
Tomorrow will be better.   I know it will.   Good night. See you tomorrow. Lil’Duckie.

Well done you on getting to Day 2. It sure isnt easy. You are now in the midst of a battle between your mind wanting to quit and the monster wanting and 'needing' you to continue. All I can advise is 'you hang on in there'. Dont give in... Each time we try and give in to the temptation, the monster inside us gets stronger. What you are feeling now is completely normal, and Im sorry to say... this will continue to be the way it is for a while. Drink lots of water... distract yourself, go for a walk, paint a painting, play with your xbox... anything.. distraction is key. Remember... no one has ever died from trying to quit smoking but millions have died by continuing to smoke the weed we dont need.
Have you any supports? Like the patches, the vapes, the lozengers or the spray? Those are all tools to make the initial battle that little bit easier... but you still need to have that strong will and determination to really stop for good. Have you a support system in terms of friends or family you can turn to or call when feeling anxious? Remember this... each craving is just that.. a craving... sourced from fear that quitting will make life miserable.. but that is so wrong.. life will be much nicer without the smell of stale cat pee, the coughing the choking, the ball and chain...

You can do this... Repeat NOPE NOPE NOPE... I will not smoke... avoid alcohol and anything that you used to do that reminds you of smoking. Im now on Day 19 so its new for me too but not my first quit so I know the drill and Ive been exactly where you are now and know and understand how hard it is.. Im rooting for you.. really I am... heres a virtual hug... Come on lil_dukie... you've got this.

Keep reading here and learning. Some great threads that might bring a tear to your eye at times cos what the poster says resonates.. Remember also... you are doing one of the best things and giving yourself a life gift that will change your life in so many positive ways. There is just NOTHING good about smoking. NOTHING! Remember that. :)
