Hello! I have tried in the past to quit, but always end up back where I started. I've smoked for decades and too often feel anxious and stressed during my challenging days. Smoking seems to hold me together, but I also know it's time to quit because my health is being seriously affected by years of smoking. I truly want to be free of this addiction, but I stress about the side effects and shock to my body. I'm trying to taper off, but something comes up to make me feel stressed, and I immediately react by ditching the plan. Joining this forum is a big leap for me as I tend to one of those who feels they have to do everything on their own. While I go out of my to help other people, I rarely think to ask for help for myself. So: here I am. Any advice you can give me to get back on track, would be very much appreciated. Thank you advance.

Best of luck to you. I have set a quit date of February 29th. It’s important to line up your support system and to line up how you were going to deal with triggers. Doing something different than you would normally do is important, so maybe go online and try to learn a language with Duolingo or Memrise, anything to distract you. I also find Allan Carr’s “Easy Way to Quit Smoking” useful. It is annoyingly repetative BUT that is on purpose, making it almost hypnotic. And it really makes you think about how daft it is to smoke. Keep in touch. You can do this.
