When I see myself as a smoker reflected in a mirror or a snapshot,  I know this picture isn't what I want for my future.  In fact, the first time I saw such a mirror reflection, I was shattered and overwhelmed with guilt and shame.

I am working steadily to transform the smoker's image of old into something new and beautiful.  It isn't always easy because the patterns of thought and behaviour are so deeply embedded.  And I've never been good at pattern recognition.  Worth the effort though, I believe.

Wishing you all a beautiful, smoke-free day.

    Turningpoint,

Pretty powerful 'imagery' in your post.

Up until I decided to quit smoking, I never really thought much about identifying myself as a smoker. But as my quit date came I realized that I was a 'smoker'. It defined everything I did every day. Now when I look in the mirror I really do see a brighter, happier non-smoking face looking back at me.

    Keep up the quit!

    Hello turningpoint,

Agree with atp, what a powerful image.  Visualization is so effective.  And as apt said when you see yourself as a bright and happy non-smoker then why turn back.

Your right behaviour patterns can be so ingrained yet not impossible to change.

Best Wishes to you along your journey!

    Marianne
