Freezing rain warnings and its a working from home day (although my office is in my home). Sure am glad I don't have to run out to get smokes, or stand out there with ice pellets hitting me in the face to smoke. LOL.  Posting last night in response to another member and brought up a few of the lesser known benefits of quitting smoking which got me thinking this would make a great thread for everyone to contribute some of the lesser known or oddball benefits of quitting. To get the ball rolling here is a partial list:

-The little callous on my thumb from flicking the lighter is going away.
-No more sore thumb from trying to light a smoke outside on a windy day.
-Haven't had to stop my car and go hunting for the dropped lit cigarette that rolled under my seat.
-Playing darts at the pub, and haven't lost the dart board to another group because we all went out for a smoke.
-Started painting in my house this week. Noticed that I get a lot more painting done as I'm not going for a smoke all the time.
-The convenience store clerk is now interested in my well being, inquiring if everything is OK as he does not see me much anymore.

What other lesser known benefits can any of you share?

    Hello atp,

Glad to hear you are at home safe.

Plenty of benefits you have, great list and thank you for initiating.

I will add a few of mine:

    • Free- not having to hide the habit
    • Being present with people in the moment as not having the cigarette on my mind
More time to devote to what I like to do, without interruption
    • No one else inhaling my second/third hand smoke
    • Empowered- I am in control of elements of my health, removing what I don't want
    • Appearance- less wrinkles, more hydrated
    • No more cigarette burns on clothes, etc.

Feeling real good to list these benefits and many more I have.

Those were good ones, marianne and atp.  I would add:

    - not having to worry about the smell and air quality if somebody comes to visit.
-not having to be concerned with with making sure my butts are out so that I don't accidentally start a fire.

    Hello atp and marianne

    What a great thread idea...

1 of my favourite is singing a whole song without interruption
    Not being a lighter thief
Being outside because I want, not because I have to be
Not knowing how much a pack/carton cost
No more smoke going up nostrils and burning
Lmao... @ hunting for dropped lit cigarette. God knows how many times. Worse yet, throwing smoke out window and just about in someone's car - true story. Scary stuff

Feels great completing first yr as non smoker with these and many more benefits

    Hi atp,

No more burning my fingers because my cigarette stuck to my lips
No more almost puking because I accidentally lit the filter instead of the other end
No more lighting up a cigarette and then noticing a little child looking at me (gulp)
No more calling a client at work and then immediately breaking out into a smoker's cough
No more winning $100 on a scratch card and wasting the money on a carton of smokes

I don't miss having my daughter ask me what I was doing outside.

I also don't miss trying to figure out how to get ashes out from between the dashboard and windshield, and all those other nooks and crannies in my car.
