its been 11 days smoke free i am surprised i got this far i have had some hurdles to get through . i found that passing someone that is smoking a challenge. i try my best to avoid at all cost. distractions are really helpful. its hard with a smoker in the household howerver my husband goes outside to smoke. i take it one day at a time, a minute at a time.there are just smoking people that are around  that is not in my control. i tell myself at night i did good to get through another day. i call the smokers helpline, and text when i feel i am loosing will power. i am thankful for the posts and quit coaches for ideas and encouragement. i need to learn to post more i am working on it. have a good smoke free day.

    Hi Cec57

Way to go on 12 days!  At one week, you were 9 times more likely to succeed in your quit, so you've surpassed that mark.  It's a difficult addiction and habit to break, but it does get easier and the thoughts of wanting to smoke do decrease each day.  And yes, it would be more difficult having a smoker in the house, but thankfully we've all taken it outdoors the last 20 years or so, so he's not constantly around you.  Good luck and keep posting, it helps!

You are doing great Cec. Keep up the great work
May i suggest that instead of thinking of the cigarette and how much you want it... learn to despise it. Figure out how much it has cost you in dollars. How it has affected family. How much it affects you at work. How it has taken its toll on your health.  Consider yourself lucky if no issues have arisen yet, but be assured they will.

We now have the blinders off, and that is the first step in healing what the nicotine has done to poison your brain.  If you do not want something then there would be no desire to have it.    Can anyone dispute this statement? Something to think about.    Stick with it girl. You'll make it. So proud of you.

    Hi Cec57,

Welcome to the Smokers Helpline and congratulations on 11 smoke free days. You are doing great. You are quite right that we have no control over others' actions. It is just ourselves that we can change. Just think of the great example you are setting for those who still smoke. Your contact with the helpline is a definite support for your quit journey.

    I wish you every success.

    Hi cec57,

Let me also congratulate you on 2 weeks smoke free.

When I smoked, I wished I would quit.  Now that I've quit, smokers wish they were me!!!  Not to sound too conceited, but that's what I think to myself when I pass by people smoking in public.  You are what they want to be.

    Thanks for sharing with us.
