    Hello everyone,

I am happy to be part of this community group as I really need all the support I can get at this point.    I am on my 2nd day without a smoke and it hasn't been all that terrible.  I have smoked for 25 yrs on and off and this will be my first attempt with the aid of the patch and gum.   I know yesterday I thought about smoking about 5000 times but distracted myself which works very well.   As the day progressed i was having less and less cravings.     Back at work and my work has been very supportive and instead of going for a smoke break i walk around the building.    My husband has also quit so we have each other to lean on!   I hope I can quit for good!

    Hi Louanne!

Congrats on Day 2 ! I am here to support you, even though I had my own slip up. I'm doing cold turkey and good luck with your patch and gum.  It's awesome that we both have supportive co-workers that can help us through this trying time. I had my slip up but I'm trying again. When all else fails, try and try again , I say!

    Cheers!

Only thought about smoking 5000 times on the first day...You got off easy;)

You and your husband are going to have a fun few weeks getting used to quitting together.

So after two days, did you and your husband take a good whiff of each other yet? Smell good not having that stale smoke smell on each other?

One thing that helped me in those first days was that I would smell my fingers. No more stale tobacco smell on them. First time in like 30 years for me. That became my secret little 'i quit smoking' test.

    Hi louannes and welcome!

You've come to the right place and the support here is huge ... major part of my success!

I tried to go cold turkey but just couldn't deal and my doctor agreed that patch might be helpful. I'm 2 1/2 months smoke free and on the final stage of the patch. I needed to focus more on the emotional dependency to smoking and the patch took enough of the physical cravings away to do that. As I've been weaning off the patch, I do experience "odd" feelings, but totally manageable.

I smoked for 30 years and thought I could never quit. Smoking was a part of who I was. But I have to say, being on this side is beyond anything I could have imagined!

Take it a day at a time, and when that feels too tricky, just take it an hour at a time.

    We are here with you!!

That’s awesome louannes! I’m also on my second day so I can really relate to what you said. Just take it day by day. I’ve found setting some goals has helped me a bit, almost give you something to try for. I gave myself the obvious first one, one day without smoking. Now my next one is one week. After that I’m not sure if I should be bold and set my next goal at 1 month or 2 weeks then a month. If anyone on here has done this and has an opinion I would appreciate it!

Haha yes only 5000 times!   I am finding it easier to quit together because the last time I quit he continued to smoke and it was really hard.   I ended up starting again.   We have not taken a wiff of the stale smoke off each other yet.   Todays task!  Omg I just smelled my fingers and no stale smoke or yellow fingers! Day 4 and I am emotional today but it is slowly passing.

Thank you for you support and am glad you quit smoking too!!

That is great news so you are now on Day 4.   How is everything going?  I have set some goals for myself as well similar to yours.   I have changed a few habits that trigger the smoking and it has helped.  I have changed my parking spot at work so i wouldnt be triggered to smoke as soon as i pull in the parking lot.  Luckily i have never smoked in my car so that is a big one i do not associate smoking with.  I also downloaded a non smoking app which tells me how much I saved, how much i havent smoked,  life regained and inspiring quotes.  Great tool to motivate the success of being a non smoker!

    Thanks again for your help!

    louannes,

The lack of stale smoke smell on my fingers was such a comfort thing to help me through craving in the first few weeks. The other I noticed was laundry day and the laundry basket didn't smell so bad. And, according to my wife she enjoys snuggling and kissing more with me since I quit smoking since I always smell so much better.

So, next is to challenge yourself to go up a flight of stairs and pay attention to your breathing. How did you do?

    Hello justfortoday,

Congratulations on your smoke free accomplishments!  It is so amazing how dependent you become on something so bad for you.   I am on Day 6 now and it is becoming easier day to day.   I am continuously saying i am a non smoker out loud so it feels good.   I tell anyone who will listen that I quit :).     How much better do you feel after quitting for 2 and 1/2 months?  I am experiencing my voice going in and out the last couple days but my energy has increased for sure!

    Thanks for your support!

    Louanne
