    Toedancer,

You didn't fail. You slipped. That happens to all of us. That is the truth, and no just some platitude.

Now learn from it and figure out what you can do different to keep yourself from slipping again.

Determination is your best asset. Be willing to fall and keep getting right back onto the quit wagon. It took me a lot of tries until I found my strength to keep my quit.

    Hi toedancer,

Not to worry.  We all slip.  If quitting were easy, no one would still smoke.  The important thing is to dust yourself off and try again, and again, and again until it sticks.  Try to learn from your slip.  What do you think triggered you, and what can you do differently in the future?

I remember being afraid to try to quit, too.  But then I got excited instead, because I realized that I was about to change my life in a big way for the better.  Try to focus on the positives, and take it one step at a time.  You can do this.  Believe in yourself.

Welcome, diane marie, and congratulations on day #1! We are happy to have you here.

And thank you for the suggestion. Many people find meditation a helpful way to easy anxiousness and manage stress.

All the best with you quit, and take care

This will be the fourth time attempting to post this. Due to being over tired and stressed and very concerned about my fears of what the first few weeks of quitting smoking will do and be like. I know going without a smoke for a day or days is horrible and i always manage to convince someone i love to spot me till payday. I am horrible and intolerable. I hate myself for acting out or behaving in auch a miserable way. I get on my own nerves and cant escape. I hate that it rules me in auch a way cuz i dont let things rule me i am so stubborn and on control mostly. But my health is a serious concern and my bf has expressed on many occasions that he wants me around for the long tetm and my smoke breaks are becoming issues at times i fight back about that i know hes coming from a gokd place and worried about me.
How does one deal with moods swings during tne first week of quitting. I need so much suplort cuz i am so serious about wanting to quit but my fears take over and my self doubt always wins to believe that i wil fail. I want to succeed and quit for real but i have reached out to services that have not been what works for me

Do i isolate away from loved ones for the first week? If thats the case and it works thwn i will. Juat need advice on behaviour changes on a very high and nasty leve

    Hi Bernvang,

We appreciate your honesty about your frustrations with deciding to quit smoking. Please remember that fear of failure means that quitting is important to you; if you weren't scared to fail, you wouldn't care to quit.

Here are some tips for dealing with withdrawal:

Try saying to yourself : "Its OK to feel angry. I can handle it. It will pass."
Let others know that you're not mad at them. Just having a hard time.

Here are some tips for how to talk to loved ones about your quit:

"What I'd like to ask you for is..............."
"It really helps when you tell me how well I'm doing."
"It helps when you remind me how far I've come."
"It helps just to talk about my struggle. You don't have to do anything."

Please remember that you are doing something extremely difficult and to try your best to be kind to yourself,

    Jenna Lee
