I am thinking the same myself. There was a lot more action here a couple of years ago. I hope everyone was so successful they don't need to come here now! I know I have seen a lot fewer smokers on the streets.

Thanks for checking in, eagerquit & wandam!
Great to hear from you both.

We are happy the online forum is here for people as they need it. We have heard lots of successful quits over the years, and many couldn't have done it without the peer support they receive on sites such as this.

All the best and thank you again,
    Sarah

    Hi guys,

This forum was immensely helpful in my quit - it provided quite the distraction and motivation in those first few weeks and even months.  There is a wealth of knowledge and advice from successful quitters contained in the past logs.

But I agree - let's keep adding to this story everyone.  No matter where you are in your quit journey, you have something to add and share with the rest of us.

Today is Day 1,000 for myself!!!  I can hardly believe it.  I still check back in here often, as I'm sure many others do as well.  Everyone - let us know how you're doing!!!

    Hi Everyone,

I am coming up on 4 years smoke free near the end of this year!  I can hardly believe it.  During that time, I would have smoked around 36,000 cigarettes.  Isn't that disgusting?

It has been wonderful not to have to stand out in the freezing cold days of winter any more.  No more slinking around trying to find a spot to smoke.  No more having to leave a function to go have a fix.  No more stinky clothes and breath, and no more yellow fingers.

I am so glad I was able to break free from this horrible addiction.  And I am proud of every single person who takes the plunge and gives quitting a try. I used to ask myself how some of my friends managed to quit. I realized that there is no magic involved.  It takes courage, commitment, and sheer grit, but the end results are definitely worth it.

For those of you just starting out, try not to be discouraged.  Moment by moment, day by day, your time as a non-smoker will build up.  And before you know it, weeks will have gone by, then months, then years.  And you will feel a real sense of accomplishment and pride.

To those of you who have successfully quit, congratulations!  And keep living with N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever).  That way, you will remain a non-smoker forever!

    Hello!
It has been a long time since I've been on the forums.
I was here a lot more frequently in my early days of quitting. This forum was so helpful for me, just to share my struggles, and my successes, and to hear from others who had succeeded, also to encourage others who wanted to quit or who had taken the leap.

My quit date is March 5, 2018, and I am on day 992, with NOPE - which is something that I heard in the early days of my quit on this forum from Treepeo, and I have succeeded with NOPE - not one puff ever.

I smoked consistently for 35 years and tried to quit many times, and always went back after having "just one puff.", sometimes after a significant period of time.  NOPE has worked for me!

    Hi Treepeo,

thank you for continuing to come to this forum to offer encouragement and tips that worked for you.

In the early days of my quit, I came on this forum. Only other smokers really understand the long term struggle of nicotine addiction.

You shared NOPE and I added that to my arsenal of tools that I had gained over the years. I vowed this quit would be NOPE, and it is now day 992.

Like you, I have found real freedom. I do not miss regularly standing out in the freezing cold, and I am zero percent likely to do it this winter, which will bring me to 3 years smoke free!

Congrats Treepeo on your success and thanks for continuing to share your wisdom and encouragement!

Way to Go - quite an accomplishment!

Today is day 992 for me - and this is the longest period of freedom I have had from smoking since I started at 13 and continued for 30+ years.

I do not come on here enough lately - but I did very much in the first year or two - this is a great place for ideas, encouragement, and inspiration!

    Hello!
I agree - I was on this site year's ago and there were many more users back then.
Today is day 5 for me and although I would love to have a smoke right now, I'm not doing it! I won't give in! NOPE
Good luck to all my fellow quitters!

    I'll be 2 years on January 01!!!

Tomorrow I will have save $10,000 by not smoking. That is a gob-smacking big number.
Clearly I used to smoke a lot!

Strange, but I don't have any connection to smoking anymore. I don't miss it. I kind even feel bad for smokers I see huddled outside in this weather. Something I did for so long, that I tried so many times to quit, that I can now not even miss it. There is more to life now.

    Hi atp,

I can't believe how much money you have saved by quitting.  It really adds up quickly, doesn't it?

It's funny you mention feeling sorry for smokers you see huddled outside.  I don't see many smokers these days, but I have seen a few in the last week, and I felt sorry for them, too.  I wondered what they were doing before they went outside for a smoke.  What plans did they interrupt to get their fix?  Did they have to excuse themselves from others?  I am so glad I no longer have to go through that.  Who needs it?  Like you said, there is so much more to life than lighting up.

You have conquered the beast, atp.  Way to go!

    Hello everyone.
So good to see so many posts on this thread and all of the smoke-free success.
It took me many tries but persistence paid off and I have been enjoying my freedom for the past 282 days. Ok I didn’t enjoy it right away but I am grateful for it now. I remember how it ruled my life and I don’t want to go back there. I have compassion for those who continue to suffer through it in any weather and despite its slavery and obvious effects on their health. I hope they too  can discover what a gift it is to quit.

Hi quitfriend - great to hear from you and congrats on your success.  You only have to quit once, and I'm glad to hear you have found that time.

What powerful words you say at the end of your post - "discover what a gift it is to quit".  Simply inspirational.  We were all slaves to the addiction, but we ALL have the power within each of us to realize the freedom that quitting offers.

Take care my friend, and you'll be celebrating a year in no time.

    Hi quitfriend,

It is wonderful to hear how far you have come!  I know those early days are hell, but eventually you get past them, and then you start to reap the benefits of quitting.  One of the benefits is the freedom that comes with breaking free.  People who never smoked could not understand my sense of elation when I quit, but almost four years later, I still sometimes shake my head in wonder that I am not ruled by this addiction.

You should be really proud of yourself, quitfriend.  You worked hard to get through the tough times, and look at you now.  Working towards your one year milestone.  Congratulations!  You are rocking your quit!
