Hi adream01,
I quit cold turkey while I was on vacation. I went back to work on day 4 or 5 of my quit. My usual pattern as a smoker was to have 3 cigs before I even left for work. So I got up a bit later, and instead of smoking, I had cereal. But what I found really tough that first day was leaving my apartment without putting smokes in my purse. I still had them at home, and I don't know how long I stood there thinking about it. But then I said to myself, "You want to change your life. Do something truly amazing. Make this quit work." And that was that. I left for work without putting any cigs in my purse. And I never went back to smoking.
I guess what I am trying to say is this. Get excited about your quit, adream01. Think about how much your life will change for the better if you quit smoking. You will smell better. Your breath will be pleasant, and you won't have jungle breath when you wake up. You won't get holes in your clothes from stray ashes. Your breathing will improve. You will have more energy. And you will be thrilled with your newfound freedom. It is shocking how much time we waste smoking, and how it holds us back in so many ways. If you quit, you won't have to worry about that any more.
You know, I am embarrassed to say this, but it used to be that when I went out for dinner with friends, I would have to step out to have a smoke at some point. I couldn't even make it through a normal dinner. I remember standing on the street, alone, in the dark, puffing away, while people walked by and looked at me. I felt like such a loser, but there was nothing I could do. My addiction ruled my life. But no more. Now I am a non-smoker and I am free. And you can be too.
Good luck tomorrow, adream01. I hope you have a great day!
