Today is 14 days since I stopped smoking.  I am so proud of myself!  I am using the 21 mg patch & the mist - which I swear - the mist is so helpful in times of stress!  I am starting to notice a change in what I can smell and taste.  I am staying hopeful and strong!

    Wende,

14 days smoke free is a big deal, and you should be proud of yourself.

I was shocked at how much improvement i noticed at around 2 weeks in sense of smell and taste, and also in my breathing - I could walk up a flight of stairs and not be wheezing. And then there's my wife who loves my new smoke free body smell.

So many positives to look forward to being a non-smoker. Take some time and reward yourself a little for reaching these milestones. As corny as it sounds, the little rewards are meaningful and something to look forward to. I got 2 pairs of Mark's insulated pants for my one month and was happy as can be.

Hi Wende, congrats on your 14 days smoke free! What a sense of accomplishment. I agree with Atp that you deserve a reward. I also used the patch, just finished them on Saturday, and seems ok so far. I felt kinda down the last couple of days, but may be the cold weather making me feel a bit isolated, as I havent been going out much. So I do have Nic gum when I need it. Using  the 4Ds, and checking in with the helpline gets me through the rough times. So good to meet you and look forward to hearing from you soon,  -m

    Hi wende,

Congratulations on being smoke free for two weeks!  That is awesome!  I am glad to hear that the mist is working for you.

Isn't it nice to start reaping the benefits of not smoking, like having a better sense of taste and smell?  And having fresh breath?  And if it hasn't happened already, soon you will start to notice a difference in your breathing.    You won't huff and puff when you climb a flight of stairs.  And now you don't have to stand outside in the cold to get your fix.  And you will have more time to do other things, rather than waste it smoking.

I love your positive attitude, wende.  Keep up the good work.  You are doing great!

Wow... I wasn't expecting so many responses!  Thank you for all of your encouragement.  This last week has been the toughest I have to admit.  I am tired, headaches and cranky.  But I keep reminding myself this will pass.  I am not having a crave so that is great.  Is it normal to have a sore throat and chest after awhile?

    Hey Wende,

We're all here trying to support each other. Week two and three are kind of hard because you are still new at being a non-smoker, and the addict in your brain is fighting your every step of the way because it misses the old you. I hit some real big cravings at the one month mark but by then I was stronger than my addiction so managed to work through it much easier.

I was coughing up all sorts of phlegm the first few weeks - getting rid of all that crap in my lungs. Felt some chest tightness but it was more to do with cravings - almost felt like i was over-stressed. Could be you are just getting a cold or something, but can't hurt to see your doctor as some people are allergic to patch.

What a supportive community we have!!

Wende, as everyone has shared with you already, I would like to reiterate a HUGE congratulations!

We have a lot of great members that have shared some great ideas and input to support you as you push forward on weeks three, four, week five, and beyond.
As atp mentioned, if you are still having those pains, check with your Doctor. But it is normal to cough up phlegm - your body is clearing itself out.

Keep up your amazing work, enjoy all that you have gained, and as an extra bonus, sign up for our First Week Challenge contest! Check it out at the very top of the page "Quit and Win"

Thanks for your reply.  Turns out I have a problem with my esophagus... but all is fine.  I have this mantra I keep saying when I am craving... "I am in control, not my addiction".  Tuesday marks one month of being a non-smoker.  This is quite the accomplishment!  So I think I should treat myself to some new clothes..hahahah.
With all of my heart, thank you everyone for your support!  I hope my partner quits soon, but he has cut down big time and can't smoke in the house.  I am not nagging him, as we all have our own path with this addiction.  Keeping strong and wishing everyone the same.

It is so hard for sure!  Addiction...grrrr.  I find if I check this site daily it helps.  I did cave last week, but am going to keep trying.  I went down to the 14 mg patch and I feel it was too early. I am not giving up though.  Keep up the fight!

    wende,

It's great to see you started back up with your quit; some people don't! Slips are a normal part of quitting, but your determination and commitment to never giving up will contribute to eventual success!

I agree with you, wandam; the community is supportive! Thank you lady in red, notsure, and breiffree for encouraging others to never quit quitting.

    Keep us posted,
    Kate R
