    Hi Tony,

    Great question!

    All NRT products are effective in helping to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Each method has it's own qualities that appeal to each person. For example, some people like the patch because they feel the constant, low level of nicotine throughout 24 hours helps to keep their cravings at bay, it's also easy to use ( most of the time) and you can put it on and forget about it!

    Others like the flexibility of something like the NRT gum or lozenge because it gives them some control over when they use it, they can target tough times of the day for them or use it to help cut down on the number of cigarettes they are smoking.

    The inhaler is great for those who feel that having something to hold in their hands like the inhaler comforts them and gives them a physical substitute while delivering nicotine...there is also the spray or mist which is convenient and again, gives the user some control over when they use nicotine...

    I agree. I think it really depends on the person. There are so many options out there.

    Vaping. Over three weeks smoke free and ZERO withdrawal issues.

    I tried the patch. Vivid dreams. Allergic reaction after 2 weeks and I can't wear them any more. Spoke to a pharmacist about switching brands but he said if you are sensitive to one then you're sensitive to all.

    The gum is putrid. The spray didn't deliver (I could smoke a pack a day while using the spray and never had an issue). Can't take Champix or Zyban because of seizures.

    I know vaping may not be the best alternative, but it is a good start. Yes, you're still getting nicotine but not the tar and carcinogens. Vaping is a real reduction in harm. Now all we need is some researcher to come up with a plan for step 2; eliminating the nicotine. This can be done. Without (or should I say against) government or industry involvement this new industry has introduced a plethora of devices and supplies. This needs support and study. Now.

    Congratulation on being smoke-free 3 weeks!!

    Here at the Smokers' HelpLine, we want to stay evidence based as you have suggested, so we recommend what Health Canada does. That is vapeing is safer than smoking, but not 100% safe at this time. Inhaling anything into your lungs has risk, and so the best way to go is smoke AND vape-free.

    The top 3 reasons why people do not find success with the other nicotine products you have tried, are:

    1) improper use
    2) not using the correct dose
    3) not using the product for the correct length of treatment

    I wanted to list this information here for you to ensure you have all the correct information so you can continue to make informed decisions about quitting.

    Hi Timothy
    Congratulations on your quit! I considered the e-vape. Since you were determined to quit and it does have less impact on your health it was a great choice for you. Otherwise you just fall into another substitution for nicotine that may become long term. I quit by accident, and went cold turkey or i may well have gone that route. 
    Again, great results. You should be elated about your new freedom!

    I have tried Nicotine patches, gum. pills and hypnosis. I am a great cheater while on these products and that is defeating the purpose . I had the laser therapy done and I quit for quite a while (2yrs) until the little monster came back and I lit up just ONE...(thinking I was in control) Then I was back at it again!!! 
    My co-worker gave me a book to read "Stop Smoking Now" by Allen Carr. Along with reading this book I gave the laser therapy another try on Nov. 12th. So today is my 10th day smoke free with minimal withdrawal.  Personally I like being completely free of nicotine to carry on and deal with the habits that made me turn to the smoking in the first place! :-/. This WILL be my last round of this rodeo!

    Congratulations on finding a helpful path to being smoke free, and on achieving your tenth day. You are doing great! Here are four practices that can also help.

    Delay. The urge will pass whether you smoke or not.
    Deep breathe.
    Drink water.
    Do something to take your mind off smoking.

    You are absolutely right!!  :-) Tonite at work I did the delay, breath, Drink water tactic and it worked. lol. I said to my co-worker "what a CRAZY time to quit smoking!!" (I'm in retail) She just smiled and gave me a few of her mints and told me I came this far... don't screw it up lol!  So I have great support at work. Each day it does become easier.

    Congrats on your quit Lanam

    Allan Carr's book is captivating, i couldn't put it down! I had a cigarette funeral today...lol  Hubby is reading the book, so i still have a few more pages to go. I was already quit before i picked it up. I would rather be craving free and not worry about  a surprise visit. You should slay this quit!
    It was a lovely funeral... i said a few choice words, stomped , shredded and flushed. Now there can be peace.  There is closure. So glad to be a free Happy Non-Smoker. You will be too. 

    i have to ask. How was the funeral?

    Ha Ha... I had one lonely cig left in my package and I threw it in the garbage on NOV. 12 just before i received the laser treatment. Then I read the last couple of chapters of the book. Yes, it is awesome to have that closure right? We are not mourning the addiction we kicked to the curb, but celebrating the healthier life we can look forward to. I can already see and feel the difference don't you? 
    P.S my husband is also a smoker.. he is "weaning" off the smoking, everyone has their own way of fighting this.. one day at a time!
