    Hi everyone!
New member: I’m on here trying again to quit.  I really need the support.  I’ve tried several times over the past year to quit, I’m sick of trying and hate myself for not being able to quit.  I currently live with a smoker and it drives me bananas!!!  I am planning to move but this will take time.  But I am motivated to successfully quit forever and want it.  Hoping that with support I can finally make that jump to being a non-smoker!

Hi Fiona, I just joined the forum yesterday. I know what you feel like. I have tried a few times over the last year to quit as well. Sometimes I could do it for up to 6 weeks but would relapse, driven by work stress. I think joining this forum will help us for sure. Hope you can quit successfully. I keep on telling myself that the body does not need nicotine at all so cravings are the result of an addiction and not your body needing it. Keep up the good work!

    Hi fiona7,

Welcome.  It's nice to hear from you.

Most of us have made numerous attempts to quit before it finally stuck, so don't beat yourself up about any past unsuccessful quits.  If quitting were easy, no one would smoke.  Tobacco companies purposely make their products as addictive as possible.  It takes a lot to beat this addiction.

What I found helpful was to distract myself.  When those cravings hit, I would go for a walk, immerse myself in a good book, or play an awesome video game.  Anything to keep myself occupied.  Or I would have a nap, because you don't crave when you sleep.

Another thing I did was to wait in 10 minute increments, because anyone can wait for 10 minutes.  The thought of not smoking for an hour was too daunting, but if you break it down, it makes it a bit easier.

Make sure you drink lots of water to help flush the toxins out of your body.  And try to eat healthy foods, because good nutrition will give you the stamina you need to keep fighting.

Quitting is hard, but it is not impossible.  Remember, you are stronger than your addiction.  Believe in yourself, fiona7.  You can do this, and you are worth it!

    Hi Fiona,
Never be ashamed of yourself for relapsing. No one will give you a trophy if you did not. We all relapsed, and finally did it. Quitting smoking is about unlearning a bad habit, and relearning and retraining your mind and body to a new habit. It's like learning to skate, you will fall many times, but one day you will skate.  Never ever give up, and be ashamed of relapses, it happens, just get back to your quit. Learn to say NOPE.

    Hi fiona7,

Welcome to our little community! I agree with a lot of what has already been shared by others on here about this awful addiction! Quitting is super hard & relapse has happened for many of us too! I’m on my fourth quit, just past 6 months & still struggle at times in wanting to smoke! Definitely much harder when you first quit, those first 3 days, weeks & months, so hang in there & keep rocking your quit!

Good morning All, I am embarking on my quit today for the last time.  That is the plan :-)  I am kind of confused about where in this forum I post a message to be welcomed and perhaps find a few people sharing my journey?

Hi everyone.  Well I have smoked for over 50 years and am 71 years old. I have tried to quit many times before but always relapsed. I talked to my doctor and went on the patch 8 days ago. First time I lasted this long. The cravings are there, but was told to do something to take your mind off of them. I have been reading all the posts on here and it is great to know I am not alone on this journey to be smoke free. Just wanted to say thank you to all of you for your help and advice. I will post on my way to smoke free month and beyond. again thanks.

Still hanging on in there with the no smoking and I have to say it does seem to be getting easier. Im still thinking of smoking a lot but the cravings arent as bad as they were the first few days. I love this forum... I was joined one before based out of the states and people were mean when it came to relapses. Everyone on here seems very supportive and friendly. That helps.
