    Hi alexjw,

    Wow - 60 days - Awesome!!!

I think the cooler weather also gets us to eat more.  It's what you eat that is maybe more important than how much.  I usually eat a couple grainy crackers with peanut  butter and a glass of milk at around 9:00 each night.  The carb/protein/calcium hit keeps me full through the night so I sleep better and can actually help weight control.

Bottom line - quitting smoking is the one single healthiest decision one can make.  Again, congratulations.

    E

Although i am in the process of quitting, i have made changes to my diet for better health and losing weight. An apple with cinnamon sliced up, almonds (just few) popcorn (No butter!) seasoned with some parmagan cheese keeps the hands busy and the tummy sated. I am currently anticipating making another carrot cake omitting eggs, sugar and margarine (use apple for sweetening and it substitutes the oil or margarine) Using just a few walnuts for the fat. This next cake i want to sub 1/3 flour with oatmeal and add some pineapple.  Healthy and delicious.

Personally, I love playing poker on line. If you have no hobbies,  Pokerstars has free poker and may  keep your thoughts off of cravings.  Surf the web and keep your mind engaged. Answer and support others like myself who i am sure will need you. Congrats on 60 days and keep up the good work!

Do you play an instrument? You just reminded me that mine is collecting dust in the closet.Never too late to learn. I even picked up and learned the basics of the bass guitar when i was 50 so that i could join in the family fun band. Borrow a guitar and give it a try.  Learning just 3 chords in one Key will allow you to play hundreds of songs. Visit a website or get a  Library  book and get those fingers dancing.

    Hi alexjw,

Congratulations for reaching your 60 days milestone! It’s wonderful! You are doing fantastic!

It’s completely normal to feel an increased interest in food when you quit smoking. Some people turn to food to manage their cravings and there are a lot of reasons for this: food taste better, hand to mouth habit, emotional habit, comfort etc. Instead of snacking, people find helpful to drink water, do some physical activities, keep their hands busy with something: play games or play on your phone, play with a straw or a stress ball; brush your teeth; draw or paint something; do a crossword puzzle; text a friend or check your emails etc.

There are different ways to distract yourself when you have a craving. Efreeman75 and shazzan have great ideas such as eating healthy snacks, play poker online, keep your mind engaged, play an instrument etc.

Cravings can be tough but they don’t last as long as people think they do. When you think about smoking or want a cigarette, do everything you can to get out of that situation and go somewhere else or do something else. You can do it!
