    Hello everyone,

First, I want to thank everyone that has shown us just how passionate each and every one of you are about SmokersHelpline.ca and the tight-knit community that has been built over the years. You have changed lives for the better, and we hope you continue to do so here.

Second, I want to personally apologize for not having better prepared the existing community for some of the changes that have come with our new site. We are a very small team that has worked on this new system, and my communication to you got the short end of my attention at times while we shoved our way to the finish line and our launch. I'm here now, and I'm listening, so let's talk.

    The important part:
This is the first release of our brand new system. We built the new SmokersHelpline.ca from the ground up, and a huge amount of the improvements involved are under the hood and unseen. Trust me, this is just the beginning. We are committed to improving upon this system and moving ahead with new features, content, and cool stuff.

    Bugs
Right now, we are in bug squashing mode. Things always happen with a new site that we don't find in testing (and we tested A LOT), so please let us know in a post in this forum if something just doesn't work or doesn't look right, or use the Contact Us form (which is working again).

    Suggestions
If you have an idea of something you want to see on the new site, please start a post or comment on somebody else's. Please let's try to keep it to one thread per idea so that we can contain all of the relevant discussion and we don't have a million threads asking for the same thing. I can't promise that everything that is suggested will happen, or maybe it will happen but in a different way than you or I have envisioned it. We are bound by cost, technology, and in some cases intellectual property, but I want to have the discussion and I will try my best to answer as transparently as I can.

    Timing
The system that you see before you is pretty flexible, so in some cases, we can make changes that take days. In other cases though, we will need to secure funding in our budget and go through approvals and get our developers to find time in their schedule to make things happen. I will try to indicate what sort of timeframe we are talking about with some of these feature requests, but many of these factors may be out of my control.

Above all, let's please keep this productive and positive. Let's look to the future of the site and how we can improve it together.

Kyle first thank you for hard work in putting together the new forum.  I can certainly understand the security aspect of the stuff under the hood and behind the scenes.  Especially with forums this can be a tricky situation.  My biggest problem seems to be speed of the site.  It seems slow to me.

    Hey Manderson4,

    Thanks for the kind words.

We're looking at our server requirements now, as we seem to have gotten a few similar complaints about speed. Could you please e-mail me and let me know what device and browser you're using, just so we can rule out any code issues as well?

    Hi Kyle,
I usually access this site through my laptop, and I notice that when a post a "reply" on the community forums, my browser doesn't go back to the forums in general.  It keeps going to "reply" to the topic I just replied too.  So I always have to go all the way back to the Community forums tab.  Any way we can fix this so I don't end up on a never ending loop?

Hmmm. I'm not sure I've seen this behaviour in our testing. You mean that it opens the reply dialog again, or that it just refreshes the same thread with your post on it?

At the top of each thread, there's a breadcrumb trail that allows you to go back up to the sub-forum that you're currently viewing, just in case that's the function you're looking for (it says "Forums / Suggestions and technical issues / Thank you blah blah blah" on this page).

    Hello Decided,

Receiving daily feedback depends on members online at the time.  Each season brings different activity too.

If your in Ontario or Saskatchewan, you can receive texts and send them too- if this helps with more feedback.  Likewise, signing up for inspirational emails.

    Hope that helps.

    Marianne
