    My journey.
This quit hasnt been easy, i have had a lot of stress filled days but i tell myself it will pass and its worth it for those days that are not stressful.
I was desperate to quit. I was not in control i would tell people i want to quit then go and have a many smokes. I felt awful , my heart was beating sobfast i had chest pains i wheezed when i breathed and my breath was so laboured ...and im only 32 ! It was killing me
Thanks to a program through my dr i got someone to help me and free nicotine patches. I relasped once and i just remember being so thirsty and feeling tired and run down. So i got back on track and now i feel better. Not every day is good but there is good in every day.
Thank you to all of you just knowing there are people out thers to help and youre all so nice and encouraging it really helped. I am taking it one step at a time and i am grateful. Have another smoke free day!! :)

    Hi Char,

Congratulations on another smoke free day! I came from much the same medical condition when I quit. When I went to bed at night I the last thing I could hear was myself wheezing. Smoker's cough was a bane of my existence. I was hospitalized. Like you said, not every day is good. However, my worst day as a non-smoker is far better than my best day as a smoker. Hang in there. The best is yet to come!

    Hi chartippybum,

I am so glad that you were able to get yourself back on track after you slipped.  Way to go!  I know that's not easy to do.

My breathing was terrible, too.  I wheezed a lot.  Any small exertion caused my heart to pound.  I had a horrible smoker's cough.  The whole thing was embarrassing and really scary.  The good news is that since I quit 17 months ago, all of that has disappeared.  My breathing is better (not perfect but better).  My heart rate is normal now, and my heart doesn't pound when I climb a flight of stairs.  And my smoker's cough is gone.

And you know what?  My tongue is pink again, and my fingers aren't stained by tobacco.  My breath is so much better, and my teeth are a bit whiter.  And those are just some of the benefits of quitting.

So hang in there, chartippybum.  I know some days it is harder than others, but the end result is truly worth it.  And you are young enough to really reap the rewards of living a smoke free life.  Your body will thank you for it in so many ways.
