    Hi Everyone, its time for me to break out in a happy dance, as I feel pretty darn good for making it this far! I bought a new ski outfit and plan on heading to the hills with my family soon, oughta be fun as I haven't skiid for many years. I also need more exercise, as I am gaining weight and need to start working on that before it gets out of control. I have been stuffing down my smoking urges with food instead of getting active, as I stayed indoors more than usual with this cold weather. But its getting warmer outside, so no more excuses, Ha! And thanks to those of you for posting on this forum, it has truly made a big difference on my quitting smoking. Here's to everyone having another smoke free day, we can do this. - m

    Way to go and congrats on hitting 100 Days!!!! And so happy to see that you are rewarding yourself and doing it in a positive way by going out skiing. It amazing what we have time and money for when we aren't smoking anymore.  

    You know it's seeing all these milestones that really bring home what effort and dedication can achieve over the nasty addiction of smoking. You did! Now go live the rest of your life enjoying your new found freedom.

    100 days - Yippee! Way to go!  This is a huge milestone and you are right to be doing your happy dance!

    I hope you enjoy your skiing adventure!  At least you won't be huffing and puffing like you were before.  LOL

    thanks atp for your well wishes, Yes the extra time and money are great, and also the extra energy! There were so many things I didn't want to do anymore when I was smoking, as I just didn't have enough energy. I was tired, and cold most of the time. Everything was getting to be too much to even think about things, let alone actually doing them. I figured it was my age, but didn't realize smoking was making me feel older than I actually am. And you are right, it does feel like a new found freedom! But I can never forget how easy it could be to fall back into old habits, so will forever keep that caution very close by.     Hi treepeo, When you mentioned not huffing and puffing like before, all I could envision was me as a smoker trying to climb a hill, ha! Not a pretty picture. Actually quitting smoking makes me feel like I am trying to scale a mountain one step at a time! It does seem like it is getting easier, but I have to be careful not to slide back, just keep pushing forward. And yes it is easier when we are not going through it alone. Thanks for your support, it is so much appreciated! - m

    100 days is quite a milestone.  You've worked really hard and you deserve to be extremely proud of yourself.

    It's hard to be active in the winter, but I love your idea of a new ski outfit and enjoying some crisp fresh air.  As treepeo mentions, I too bet you will notice an improvement in your breathing.  In fact, I'm sure you will notice many other improvements in your life as you continue in your journey.  Keep the momentum.

    Thank you butterfly and good for you on your 4th day! I believe it is a great accomplishment wherever we are in our journey. It takes a lot of courage to take that step, and keep on going one day at at time. I don't know that I would have placed any bets on me being successful on staying quit, but decided tp just get really stubborn and beat this addiction to the ground! We can do this together. - m

    Congratulations on being smoke-free for 100 days! That is quite an accomplishment!

    Many people who are quitting do find that they eat more and gain some weight (as appetite does increase after quitting) when they quit. As you said, many people find exercising to be helpful with combatting this, as well as replacing junk food cravings with healthier alternatives.

    What other things do you do or could you do to help deal with smoking urges other than eating?

    P.S. I hope you enjoy your new ski outfit and ski trip soon, its well deserved!

    I think you nailed it with 'get really stubborn and beat this addiction to the ground!' You know for so many of us who tried to quit before, it was kind of like we just needed to dig a bit deeper and be stubborn about not smoking. 

    I was watching My 600LB life on TLC a few weeks ago and said to the wife "it's amazing that some people can just decide that they've had enough and start to lose like 50lbs a month' and my wife said 'kind of like you finally deciding to really quit smoking'.

    Thanks efreeman75, I am not sure how much skiing I will actually do, but seemed to think it is important to look 'cool' in my new outfit, Ha!  But the  really important part is just actually going, and having fun. We do deserve that. Quitting sure isn't easy, but it is amazing to start seeing the benefits such as the money, time, and energy. Oh yes and doing the breathing exercises when I thought I was pretty much at the end of my patience got me through another round. Now I can actually take some good deep breaths, and it feels good! Heres to another smoke free day - m

    Hi wandam and steven, thank you for your replies, the support shown on this forum are so helpful. I know I have to get more active, whether its exercising, and walking more. I will be busy in my yard once spring comes, but it's this in between time thats tough to get going. I think we are all looking forward to nicer weather. I hope that will get me motivated. 
    atp, your wife sounds like a very wise woman! The determination of those people losing all that weight is quite a bit like quitting smoking. Overcoming an addiction can be a real battle, but we are winning!!

    I know this is an old thread but 100 days is awesome. Hopefully I will make it to that milestone in a few months. 
    Really like the 'kick it into the ground' analogy. We really do have to put the foot down and be stubbourn about our quits to hold on. Great reward to give yourself with the new outfit... Im getting images of 'Sexy Flanders' from the Simpsons.

    First of all I really like your name, freedom pretty much sums it up! it didn't seem like it at first, but after some time it sure does make a person feel 'Free At Last!' Good for you on your 5 days in your quit, I know how hard it can be! we are all here to support each other so keep posting, and take it one day, or one hour at a time. You can do this!  -mm
