Thanks for sharing your story with us. I understand what you mean about trying to quit before but never really taking it seriously. I used to make some half-hearted attempts to quit, just to "prove" to myself that it was just too darn hard to do but oh well, at least I gave it a shot. It was all such a crock to appease myself.
This time was different. This time I meant business, and I have been a non-smoker for about 15 months now. I decided to quit cold turkey, which was really tough. However, the wonderful people on this site helped tremendously and pulled me through all the rough patches.
I am so happy to hear that your mother is doing well since her surgery. I am also glad that this has made you take quitting seriously. You will find some great advice on this site. I would really encourage you to read through the materials and do the exercises suggested. This will help you to prepare for your quit. And the more prepared you are, the more likely you are to be successful. And please keep posting. We will all do what we can to help you through this process.
