I'm hoping it's a common thing. just need reassurance that a constant choking feeling can happen still after a month of being smoke free!

    Hi Eric123,

Firstly, congratulations on quitting smoking. 37 days smoke free is a really big accomplishment.

As far as the throat issues that you are having, withdrawal symptoms can be different for each person. Both in what they experience and how long it last. Typically withdrawals will last about 2-4 weeks. So you are just over that mark. I would say that it never hurts to check in with your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms that are concerning you.

In the mean time, drinking lots of fluids and maybe some hot teas or cough drops will help to sooth your throat?

    Wishing you all the best,
    Emily

Thanks Emily. I have asthma so i went through hell and back within the first 4 weeks of quitting. from thinking I had covid to thinking I had strept throat. I would get massive hot flashes with a swollen throat and choking sensations. had to take lozenges and tylenol to help with the symptoms. nothing has helped too much. it seems time, water are the only things that helped in the long run. so I'm assuming alot of my symptoms come from quitting. with what I went through quitting smoking by far is going to be the best thing in my life. I am kinda glad I had symptoms as bad as I did otherwise it probably would be easier to pick up the habit again. I will never go through what I did again and hope for no one to go through what I have gone through. I've quit smoking multiple times and by far this one was life changing.

thank you for the reassurance. I'm still smoke free. what I've noticed is I'm most likely going through severe seasonal allergies. I have asthma and allergies to dogs and cats but haven't had this happen b4. I've been very panicked about how I've felt. with time I've noticed its periodic and comes and goes worse some day and better another. hopefully my throat heals and it's less severe. it's been a long 50 days but it's worth it. I feel my lungs getting healthier. just wish my throat would get better!

    Hi eric123,

Congrats on being smoke free for over 50 days.  Woohoo!  You are doing great!

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your throat.  But rest assured.  Whatever is causing your throat issues, smoking would only make it worse.  Suffering from allergies is bad enough.  You don't need the added burden of all the chemicals in smoke.

Stay strong, eric123.  Enjoy the summer as a non-smoker.  You will breathe a whole lot easier.
