So here's a little more background of my quit. On Valentine's Day this year, my brother collapsed at work unconscious. Rushed to hospital - turns out he has a defective heart valve, possibly genetic. I think about it for a couple of days, and figure if I need to go get some tests done, I might as well quit smoking. So looking at my family during Family Day weekend, I make the commitment and take the plunge.
Fast forward 9+ months later, I am still smoke free. And after months of planning and waiting, my brother is having heart surgery today. Surgery has been cancelled and re-scheduled numerous times (don't get me started on that!), but finally yesterday afternoon all the pieces aligned and he was told to get ready for today.
I dropped his kids off at school this morning, and while driving to my office, the song "Ain't Missing You" by John Waite plays on the radio. A smirk comes across my face as I turn up the volume and realize that I haven't even had the urge to smoke with all the craziness the last 24 hours has hurled at us. Life will be stressful with or without cigarettes, but at least without, we are in control.
I think I've got a new theme song. Cigarettes - "I ain't missing you at all, since you've been gone away!!!"
