First week smoke free

    Hi all

    I'm proud to have been one week smoke free. I'm still a tad anxious and cranky but it is way better than a few days ago. On Sunday I walked 14,000 steps and did a exercise class as I felt I might explode. I have quit a few times over my 40 some years of smoking but this feels different as I really don't want to smoke again, ever. I always felt that when I quit but still, somehow, it does feel different.

    Thanks for listening to me and sharing my excitement... of course now I'm thinking I had better be careful and not be over confident.

    One whole week - way to go! The first week is the hardest. After that you can handle anything. 

    I know exactly what you mean. I've tried to quit a bunch of times over the years. This time, quit Jan.01, I knew it was different. I was more committed and just plain ready. 

    Week two should get better. Figuring out how to do things while not smoking will take some getting used to, so be prepared for cravings at the oddest times. 

    During the second week I found my sleep was still furtive, but at least I was not as cranky during the day. It was during the second week that I started to come to grips with not smoking. 

    You have so much to look forward to. Smelling and tasting things better, more energy, better breathing, bye-bye to smokers cough, and all the money you'll be saving.

    Hi lisads,

    Congratulations on making it through your first week smoke free.  That is a major milestone and you have a right to feel proud!

    If this quit feels different, then it probably is.  Perhaps this is YOUR time to quit.  So keep doing what you're doing, and remain vigilant, because cravings pop up at the strangest times.  I envy your exercise program.  How the heck did you manage 14,000 steps?  The most I ever did was about 10,000, and my feet were killing me!!!

    I love reading the support in this thread! As everyone has said, huge CONGRATS on your first week smoke-free, Lisads! That is a huge accomplishment to be proud of! 

    As many have mentioned, the first week is often the most difficult, and it's amazing that you're using exercise to help in the process! And yes, I'm with Treepeo, 14 000 steps is a lot!     Today was was a bit harder with more cravings... and yes at the oddest times! That addict mind is tricky but deep breaths, water, some lavender and pepper oil and the Not One Puff Ever mantra has gotten me through.

    atp, I can’t wait for the smokers cough to go!

    Breiffree, i want a t-shirt that says freedom on it! It is so nice to have the freedom of not sneaking out for a smoke and being worried my teenaged daughter will notice. Or talking to other people on my short breaks at work rather that standing outside freezing... freedom!

    treepeo, I usually walk 10,000 steps a day during the week as I walk to work and back, I’ve been doing that for years. My anxiety helped me walk the extra 4,000! I think it is the most I’ve ever noticed I’ve walked.

    I was pretty cranky at work today but my favourite colleague says she likes the sassy me!

    Madeline, my teen has a stationary bike and I’ve taken to riding it during an episode of something on Netflix. I don’t really love riding it but it’s more fun that way!
