I am going for acupuncture today to kick this bad habit. Has anyone used acupuncture to quit? Is it effective?
I have been smoking for a bout 35 years and its time. This will be my second go around at it. I quit last year for about 6 months and during this time I was suffering very badly with fibromyalgia. It was during the quit time I was diagnosed, so in order to deal with it I picked up a smoke. Not the best coping skills I know but it did get me through a lot.
I am a person who loves smoking, I know crazy. But I do, and I feel like i'm giving up my best friend.
Any advice any one has on how to not give into the cravings or get past the times you tell yourself you can't do it and your just gonna have one smoke, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Welcome mamab!

im not sure of the acupuncture but I can tell you that you have come to the right place for support. I just smoked my last cigarette on Sunday and coming to these forums has helped immensely with the first couple of days. Weather it’s inspiration you need or you just need to vent this is the place to do it. As for the one smoke won’t kill me kinda thing I read a quote on here today that has stuck with me since I read it this morning “there is no such thing as one cigarette, they travel in packs” so next time you think hey one won’t hurt just remember that. Anyways I know you can do this just like a lot of people have done that are on here.

i wish you they best with the acupuncture and I hope you kick smokings butt!

    cheers!

    Thanks Lester,

I will definitely think of that saying. I have been reading a lot of posts and this is an amazing site. I never knew it existed. I think having this type of support is going to make all the difference.

Good luck to you as well, it sounds like your doing awesome!

    Mamab,

    Congrats on deciding to quit.

Yeah, I missed my 'best friend the cigarette' at first too. We did everything together. Except once I quit I realized that without smoking felt better, I could smell and taste my food, and I could breath! glorious depth breaths. Run up a flight of stairs and not be winded breathing. I was shocked at how much better I felt.

Acupuncture, NRT's, steel cut oatmeal - whatever works is what matters.

    Thankyou, atp

i am very much looking forward to breathing normal again and not having this horrible cough. Its quite frightening with how you don't pay attention to it when your smoking.
wheezing, coughing, smell of cigarette smoke will all be gone soon.
