    Hi everyone
I’m on day 3 of stopping smoking. I’m using the Nicoderm patch. Question: I read Allen Carr’s book, The Easy Way to Stop Smoking, and he states that using ‘aids’ is not good; a ‘cop out,’ so to speak. So, am I cheating? I feel like anything that stops me from smoking is a positive thing.
    What’s your opinion?

    Hi cleo,

Congratulations on day 3 smoke free! You found a quit aid that works for you, that's great news.

Nicotine replacement therapy (nrt) products like the patch are a much safer way of getting a controlled dose of nicotine without inhaling all of the burned particles and toxins that are in cigarettes. NRT contains a lower dose of nicotine that is released into your system to help soften cravings and ease symptoms of withdrawal. Combined with other strategies to address the mental, emotional and social aspects of smoking, NRT can be a powerful tool to help you quit smoking.

You've made some wonderful progress and not smoking is definitely a positive thing!

Wishing you continued success on your journey.

    Warm regards,
    Karen, Quit Coach

On day 6 using the patch. I too have vivid dreams & poor sleep so have been taking it off before bed. I put a new patch on first thing in the morning. It seems to be working just fine for me. I think whatever you have to do NOT to smoke is acceptable! Allen Carr’s book works for so many but I’m using an aid (patch) & no longer worry that it’s a crutch. I’m not smoking & that’s the goal here!
