Hi everyone. Im just starting my journey to quitting and received my 8 weeks supply of the Thrive nicorette gum today. Im already having cravings and I just smoked less than an hour ago. This has to get easier because im getting the worst anxiety...ive heard i should set my date 24 hours before?

    Welcome cc91!

Great to have you on board!
Take your time in working through the website and the exercises and getting through the material. All of it will add up to help you with your quit. You've set your date for the end of the month?

Setting your date ahead of time is a good idea. Often it is good to give yourself some time to get ready. Cutting down gradually over weeks and days to get ready can help some. However, some might like a 24 hour period of getting ready but it isn't for everyone.

If it is causing anxiety, would it be best to just do a 24 hour or give yourself a couple of weeks? What do you think is best for you?

Are you working on cutting down ahead of time, you mentioned you are using the gum?

Let us know! Welcome to the community,
    Lillian

    Hi cc91,

Everyone is different, but I would find it torture to do such a long count down.  As Lillian suggested, maybe you should read through the material here, do the exercises, and then give yourself 24 hours to gather yourself before you quit.  There is some really helpful information and great ideas on this site, and they will help you to prepare for a successful quit.  And maybe do some more research on NRTs.  Maybe the gum alone will not be enough to get you started.  Have you considered using the patch?  Or Champix?  Read through what others have posted about their experiences with these products.  They are there to help you quit.

Whatever you decide, we are with you 100%, cc91.  Quitting smoking is one of the best decisions you could ever make.  Welcome to the world of people striving to be non-smokers!  It's hard, but we can do it!

    Hi CC91,

Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking. I went smoke free just over a month ago and I am using NRT gum like you will be, also nicotine lozenges. The four D's suggested by brieffree help me a lot. As the quit has progressed I have been feeling less need for the replacements. I hope to hear more from you in the forums.

Thanks for the advice. I am waiting on the patch to come in the mail, I was lucky enough to find a great organization in Kitchener that provides it for free. I am leaning towards bumping up my quit date because Im thinking it may be harder if I drag it out (i.e gives me time to think of reasons to NOT quit and make excuses). I'm glad I reached out and appreciate all the support.
