I started two days ago to cut down from 20 a day to 10 a day,  so far I smoked 9 instead of ten, to-day I will try for five. I also have a #2 patch on which really does help me. I have the spray but it stings my mouth so didn't use it yesterday yet I will if necessary! I smoked for  56 years I am now 72 and just couldn't seem to stop. The steps I'm taking now are very helpful.

    Hi donnalynn.

Welcome to SHO and congratulations on the progress you are making. Take it one day at a time and keep making it happen (that’s my plan too)!

Wishing you success on your journey.

    Hi Donnalynn,

I'm 68 years old and smoked for 50 years.  Only quit recently.  As they say "better late than never!"  I'm using the 21 mg patch which is a big help.  I'm also putting the money I save into a savings account every week.  That seems to help motivate me.  As well as the health concerns, which increase as the years progress....

Best wishes to you in your quit.  Look forward to hearing about your progress.

    Hi Donnalynn,

I am 66 years old and smoked for decades then went smoke free six weeks ago. I have been using nicotine lozenges and gum. I tapered that off gradually and the past two days haven't felt the need for those aids.

Quitting is a challenge. I have found this site very helpful for tips and support. I wish you every success in your smoke free journey!

    Hi donnalynn,

Good for you for cutting back like this, and aiming to quit completely.  Like you, I smoked most of my life and have now been a non-smoker for 15 months.  Quitting wasn't easy, but it was definitely worth it.  You will find your breathing will get so much better, and your heart won't pound with mild exertion.  You will just be healthier overall.

Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
