    Hi Heab

I am so happy that you did it, you see is not too bad. Just yourself with no Smokes.
You have time to do all thinks you couldn't  do wile you were smoking,
Congrats, Now you have a little experience as non smoker. So day 2 will be easier!

Again, is  your Brain clearing of  Nicotine, also you will feel more energy than before.
Pay attention to your Body signs, what you need instead of smoke.

For example: water, a candy, a fruit, a walk, a shower to relax, eat carrots etc...

Whatever you chose must be healthy!

    One day at the time!

Thank you brieffree ! You are so supportive !! Feeling like I want to stay in  all day and watch movies, Tomorrow will be hard. I wake at 5 am to start work - leave at 7am. I spend about an hour drinking coffee and smoking in the morning- as well as smoking in car on the way to and from work. It is a 40 min.drive. I do not smoke at work and do not leave for lunch or take a cigarette break. I actually never think  about smoking at work. BUT- before and after work I would chain smoke. Feeling anxious about tomorrow !  But yes this is day 2- Wow - makes me happy. I heard some where that first 3 days are hardest- guess it depends on the person. When I have a craving I think about how I am now cancer free- and if I start smoking again it will increase the chance of having another recurrence. I donut want to go through that again. Cravings are worse today than yesterday.  Some one told me once " don't count the days- let the days count you" Thanks for being here/there !

    Hi Heab and Brieffree!

Big congrats to you Heab for making it through your first day!
You have very powerful affirmations to keep you going! Congrats on being cancer-free!
Brieffree shared some very important strategies in responding to your body that can help with the cravings. Having some distractions to turn to when you feel a craving can be very helpful. Some other suggestions are the 4 Ds:
    - Delay: The cravings usually go away shortly, so delaying is important!
    - Distract: Distractions like Brieffree mentioned can help you delay and get your mind off the craving.
    - Drink water: This helps mimic the hand to mouth motion and is just good for us!
    - Deep breathing: inhaling for 5 seconds, and exhaling for 7 seconds - repeat a few times, this helps calm the nervous system!

As you said, continue taking it one day at a time and using the tools at your disposal, and know that you have a lot of support online, and through the helpline. We are here for support tomorrow when you go to work and you're welcome to call us at 1-877-513-5333!

Here's to another smoke free day!

Day 3 - I was so anxious about today. I quit on Saturday. My favourite time to smoke was driving to work and driving back- 40 min. Kinda my alone time-just me and driving and smoking. Went to work and back without smoking. Was hard- but I kept trying to distract my self - and just breath. Some how I managed to not smoke but strong cravings all day !

    Hi heab,

Congratulations for staying strong and not smoking in the car.  That is a huge accomplishment!

I can relate to how you feel.  I quit smoking when I was on vacation.  I think I went back to work on Day 4 of my quit.  I remember standing there staring at my purse before work, asking myself if I could really leave my apartment without putting smokes in my purse.  After about 10 minutes, I realized that quitting smoking was really important to me, and off I went to work without any smokes.  And the rest is history.  I am now a non-smoker.

This whole process is going to feel very strange for a while, heab, but hang in there.  You are just starting out on your journey.  Little by little, it will get easier.  Believe in yourself.

Hi treepeo's- I so needed to hear that THANK YOU ! What you said about everything feeling so strange. The cravings are hard- but not as difficult as anticipated. Everything feels so odd. Just the daily routines etc. But what was amazing was I would spend an extra hour in the morning getting ready for work really just to make coffee and smoke. So yesterday I was ready to leave for work an hour early- meaning I can have an extra hour of sleep in the morning- that is a gift ! As well as not having to try and get rid of the smell of smoke before entering the building I work in or trying to get rid of the smell in my car if I give a co worker a lift- all those little things made me much less anxious! THANK YOU !
