I was doing pretty good with the cravings and felt good and then on Tuesday my cat was really not doing well in which I was so heartbroken and worried about her talking to vet about what may be going on and getting her into the vet and making sure we had a ride as she needed to go there the stress and emotions went wild inside. that morning I had the worst craving and ended thinking that a cigarette is the only way could deal with it all. probably a lot underneath that as well. we got to the vet news could be okay but it could be very devastating but she was pretty sick. it could be asthma or could be a mycoplasma infection being treated for as a kitten which outcomes aren't good. I was a wreck all night and continued to smoke but talked to my nurse practitioner yesterday and gave me the inhaler to try so called the helpline and talked and learned so much and how I could approach things and the patch and inhaler so felt really good could go back to my quit. I decided to use the patch and the inhaler for breakthrough cravings. started yesterday morning and have stayed quit. we wont know which it is for another week and am praying asthmas as just gives her steroids to treat that. the other is an area I really don't want to think of as will be heart wrenching so am staying on my quit and trying to deal with the stress in a better way and I am focused again and feeling good.

    Hi tiny2018,

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. It sounds like she has a wonderful pet parent looking after her. Wishing you the best outcome in this situation.

For many people, when stress comes up smoking can be one of the first ways we think of coping with it. But you reached out to all of your supports, made sure you had the right dose of nicotine replacements and now here you are, feeling confident that you can manage this without smoking.

We are all here for you as you work on this.

took the patch off last night but this morning I rushed into the shower and then put the patch on. the cravings were there but used inhaler to help with the craving. made breakfast this morning and again tried to change my routine and come with a new routine that doesn't involve smoking and again I had more time without for doing other things that I enjoy and at times getting a better start to my day. I always looked at walking somewhere as I was afraid of it as I always had a cigarette when walked anywhere so I started to look at it as a challenge and as soon as got where wanted to go I felt so awesome that I did it and never included smoking. that felt good an awesome challenge each time I overcome. I listen to my ipod when walking keeping my thinking off nicotine and each challenge overcome. when finally got to last place had to go I gave myself a treat and got my favourite coffee and sat relaxed and read before my walk home. I visit here often as I find I learn so much and support each time and today again is day 2 but I got another box of patches as am confident and will keep going.

    Tiny,

Wow, that a lot of stress to deal with.

So you slipped. Big deal. It happens, and you realized that, and are right back to working that awesome quit that you started.

The strange thing is that so many of us have had to deal with some stress or adversity early in our quits. It's like the smoking under-lords are watching and trying to keep us from quitting. LOL.

It really sounds to me like you know that this is your time to quit. There's a determination in your words. It's not the patches or the mist - it's your attitude that is going to see you though. It is always about your attitude. The patch and mist are there to give you confidence and smooth out the nicotine withdrawal, but it's you that's beating the cravings.

You can do this. We got your back just reach out and we're here.

If you go over to the DAY TO DAY forum there is a daily pledge. Be great if you'd take a minute and join us on it.

I try to stay strong and I just couldn't seem to get past the health crisis with my kitty that will be a long time trying to improve but I knew I wanted to keep to my decision I wanted to quit smoking that as seems is remaining stable at the moment with medication to try to help my kitty I needed to stay with my decision to quit smoking. It's a good idea that I didn't try but talking to myself outloud I am going to definitely use this time

    Hi tiny2018,

I am sorry to hear that your cat is having some problems.  I know how stressful that is, as I have had several cats and loved them all like babies.  Your cat is lucky to have you as her Mom.  You are doing the best you can for her and I am sure she can feel your love and concern.  I truly hope that she makes a full recovery.

Your cat needs you to be healthy and strong.  So try to put your slip behind you and move forward with your quit.  You said that you have already gone on walks and had a coffee without smoking, and that it felt good.  You can do that again.  Yesterday is the past.  Today is a new day and the possibilities are endless.  Give yourself another chance to live life as a non-smoker.  You deserve it.

    Hi tiny

You are doing Great! Keep the hard work! continuo fighting those moments! Remember, there is moments, small thinks that trigger our craves and push you into the crave.
That is when we apply all our Soul and skills that we learn to get rid of it!

It might be the way you see the Problem! sometimes there is small and not work it moments that we can not do nothing about it.

The right choice thinking in the best solution possible might release pressure and the stress is less!

You are done so good! Give your self a break, and enjoy with something Health, laugh, brief, etc.!

    You can do this!

Thank you everyone. this morning I put on the patch and today is day 1 for me. from all I have learned and read in the posts I have used them today to help me through my day. has been pretty good but twice today I really bit a couple of peoples heads off and that's not usually like me. seems today was just a little thing and I started really getting angry with them. after I had taken a few breaths and sat back I realised or asked myself where in the heck did that come from. I decided that today I was going to do things for me and be with me and read and watch some tv and was pretty tired from stress so took care of myself and had a nap this afternoon. found a real good book and didn't want to put it down but not sure where came from started wanting to has a cigarette. I tried instead to direct my focus on the book and keep reading but it wouldn't let up so instead I got up and came here to read the posts and go through some info in the exercises that could help. made supper for the first time in a bit usually I just go snaking through my day and evening. grabbed a bottle of water too but realized have made it through most of day 1 and have remained smoke free

    Hi Tiny,

    You're making it happen!

If you're biting people's heads off then you made a good choice to take some "me" time, do some things that you enjoy, and focus on yourself!

If you still have the inhaler, that could also help lessen some of those withdrawal symptoms.

Keep taking good care of your cat (I hope she's feeling better), and taking good care of yourself! One day at a time.

    Regards,
    Efram
