    Hello All
I am only 2 days smoke-free, but know that I'm on my way to a forever quit.  I know there are many benefits to quitting, but by far the most important to me is that I finally realized that yes, I do really care about my health.  After many quit attempts, this has at last sunk in.  I also know there'll be a lot of ups, downs, cravings and discomfort.  I will need your support and encouragement, and thank you in advance.  You can count on me as well.
    Have a wonderful, smoke-free day!

    Welcome to the forum, Turningpoint!

Glad to have you aboard - and it sounds like you've truly made-up your mind about making this your "Forever QUIT"...
There's no sense in me going on-and-on about all the awesome things to come once you've finally QUIT for good, because I'm sure we've all heard it all: That's why we're here!! :)

If I can offer one small piece of advise regarding the "cravings" (and there will be MANY MANY times where the cravings seem impossible to escape)...

Take each HOUR / each DAY as a separate milestone / a separate "victory", and reward yourself for successfully reaching and overcoming those milestones.

Don't try to look at this "forever QUIT" as weeks, months, and even years where you have to be 'smoke-free'... Instead, concentrate on those smaller, more manageable blocks of time, and then immediately set a new goal for another HOUR, another 4 HOURS, etc.  (You'll be happy you did!)

Please come back and post each day (or several times in the day, if time allows)...There's usually SOMEONE around that can serve as a 'sounding post' if nothing else.  We all do our very best to support each other, and some require more support than others (I needed constant reassurance during my first 3-4 weeks or so).
We're all eager to hear how you're coping with your QUIT, and posting about what methods YOU have used can really help others in their own journey to become 100% smoke-free.

Remember to lean on the staff members here - they know exactly what you're going through, and they can guide you through your quit, offering a wealth of resources that you didn't know existed!

    Hi Turning Point,
We'll soon be sharing our quits.  I'm doing the weaning method right now, and will then use nicotine replacement therapy for the final kick off.  I was doing real good with weaning for about a month, but then had a hiccup life situation these last 3 weeks, and am back to weaning. Anytime you need help or encouragement, give us a holler.  I'll usually try and check in once a day.  And congratulations, I hear you about the health benefits!  I agree with buttingout2014, I go hour by hour or every 3 hours in blocks.  It gives me confidence which I so desperately need.

    Hi turningpoint,

You're not only 2 days smoke free, you're 2 DAYS SMOKE FREE - YIPPEE!!! That is terrific, and you should be excited about that.  I'm happy to hear that this will be your forever quit.  My friend wimporswim and I both had the feeling that this was our time to quit, and we were right.  So the fact that you say this is your forever quit is a really good omen.  You just get to a point where you know the time is right.

Yes, you will experience a lot of ups and downs.  But you will make it through.  Just keep yourself distracted and drink plenty of water.  And post here as often as you want.  Support is a huge key to success.

    Good Morning, quitter friends!
Thank you very much buttingout, ocean and treepeo for your welcome, advice and encouragement.  It took me a few days, but now have some smoke free time under my belt.  This is the hardest thing I've ever done, but I feel so good when I make it past a craving without giving in.  You have to really want this.  Buttingout your online resources are terrific.  I'm working my way through Carr and Spitzer.  One thing - I've been using the patch.  Should I try cold turkey?
    Thank you, friends!

    Hi Turningpoint,

I hope things are going well for you in your quit. Whether you do this cold turkey or with the aid of a Nicotine Replacement, ultimately success is being smoke-free.  Many of our members were successful with the use of product and many without, everyone is an individual and it can take a bit of trial and error in discovering the best method for you.

Let us know how things are going,
    Lillian

    Hi turning point,

Yes, it is hard to quit.  And you have every right to be proud of yourself each time you say no to your cravings.  You will be fine, turning point.  Believe in yourself and it will happen.

Great decision turningpoint.  I am Also, trying to quit forever.  This is my third attempt and I am 429 days into it. Key is to never have a puff ever again forever! My previous two attempts lasted 1 year each and then I decided to have a puff, and both time I was back at where I started at quickly. :)  Now, I know that key to quit forever is Never a puff ever!!! We can do this!!
