Hi Everyone . I quit smoking 14 days ago .It was going ok but now I'm finding it harder! Not sure what's going on. Is this normal? I've been using the nicotine inhaler and I'm wondering if this is making it worse for me instead of better!??
Maybe I should just tough it out this week without the inhaler to get the nicotine out of my system. Any thoughts or advice?

    Hi marion777,

Sorry to hear you are having a rough patch, we've seen it quite a bit around here that people will notice a bump in cravings around the 2 week mark...hang in there!

Using the inhaler should help with cravings and withdrawal, some troubleshooting might be to look at how many cartridges you are using, ( they only last for about 20 min before they need to be changed), and making sure that you are puffing rather than inhaling, it's more effective.

Feel free to give us a shout at Smoker's Helpline if you have any questions or want to chat about strategies etc. We're here Monday thru Thurs. from 8 am - 9 pm, Fridays from 8 am to 6 pm, and Sat. & Sun from 9 - 5 pm.

    Take care,

    Jennifer

    Hi marion777,

Congratulations on living smoke free for 14 days. That is a great accomplishment!

I have found that quitting smoking is a journey. There are ups and downs for a while but as the health benefits develop it is all ups. This takes a different amount of time for each individual. Hang in there and don't give into the addiction. You will feel much better with time.

The NRT are a great way to go in a quit as they help calm the cravings. Your doctor and pharmacist can guide you. The Smokers Helpline coaches are also helpful and can be reached at 1-877-513-5333. I used lozenges and gum myself and tapered it down in the course of several months.

Give yourself a pat on the back and remind yourself of your reasons for quitting. Reward yourself for your milestones. Celebrate your two weeks smoke free!

    Hi Marion777

I would encourage you to continue to use the nrt inhaler. It makes quitting easier and helps with cravings and withdrawals.

Don’t give up and post often!

    We are here for you

Hi Marion - just my experience, but I found myself more craving the Quik Mist about a month into my quit than I craved cigarettes.  I also quit the mist and have been much more stable since.
