I first made my quit date for August 20/18. This was just 4 days away from when I started this program.  I chose to change the date until August 31/18, and have chose to try to cut down during the time leading up to the  quit day.  I have began smoking every 60 to 75 minutes for the most part. I have only quit once several years ago for 3 days.  I find myself afraid of failure.  I started smoking at age 15 but barely smoked.  It was not until my late 20 s that I began smoking more.  Now many years later the only other time I gave it a shot was to cut down to 7 cigarettes a day for about a week.  I want to be successful in this pursuit.  Any suggestions on the against that builds moving toward the quit date.

Hey, how you doing, my name is smitty, I have been quit now for almost 4 months, its getting pretty scary eh, I quit by using a combo tharapy of the patch and the spray, i planned my quit carefully, went to my doctor and he referred me to a quit coach, she supplied the patches and the spray for me free of charge, the only catch was that I follow the plan, I followed the plan and then I realized one day that its been 3 weeks since I last used a patch, the thing is wandy57, what works for me, may not work for you, you have to figure out something that works for you, I would suggest that you go see your family doctor and see if you can get into a smoking cessation program, the program is free for all Ontario residents,I think the worst thing that you can do is to keep putting it off, I am not saying that you cant do it cold turkey but you will stand a better chance if you get some help, all the best

Hello wandy57 & welcome to SHL.ca - you came to the right place! We are so glad you're here, and excited you are interested in making a quit attempt...good for you!
The title of your thread really drew me in because...well..its totally common to feel all sorts of feelings about quitting smoking! Its a big big change so naturally, it can cause some anxiousness.
We are with you every step of the way.

And as Smitty so wisely stated, you gotta find out what works best for you BUT there are programs and services available.
Please feel free to give our Smokers Helpline a call (Mon-Thurs 8am-9pm, Fri 8am-6pm and Sat/Sun 9am-5pm) at 1-877-513-5333 if you would like a Quit Coach to take a peek and see what is avail to you locally.

    All the best,
    Sarah

    Hi wandy57,

Good for you for deciding you want to quit.  I know it's scary.  We are all scared to try, but it's worth it, trust me.

Why not call the Helpline?  They can put you in touch with resources that can help you a great deal.  And I think it would be great for you to see your doctor as well.

And keep posting here, wandy57, because we are all here for you.  You are definitely not alone.  Quitting is hard to do, and everyone needs help.  Let us support you through this process.  You can get so much info on this site, everything from how to prepare to quit, to how to actually do it.  The more prepared you are, the more likely you are to be successful in your quit.  But if at first you don't succeed, don't worry about it.  We have all been there.  None of us are perfect, which is why this site is so great.  We have all been there, done that, so none of us judge each other.  We just support each other through thick and thin.

Give quitting a shot again.  You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.  And remember, we are all on your side, no matter what.
