    Hello friends,

    My name is Lue.
I have been a smoker for 40 years.
Successfully, I had been smoke free a few times but unfortunately, I  started smoking again 3 years ago while on holidays in Costa Rica.

My quit day is May 5 &
    I am terrified!

I have never been on a smokers helpline forum & feel this time, I will need a lot of support.
Support from & with individuals, who completely  understand the difficulty of quitting.
I am trying to stay positive, and know when the actual day arrives, all logic will be lost & fear will set in.

Leading up to my day, I will continue to write.
I applaud you all, it takes courage, strength & self awareness for a better life.

    Hi Lue,

Welcome to the forum, so glad you popped in.

I smoked for 43 years and quit cold turkey about 15 months ago with the help of all of the wonderful people on this site.  I'm not going to lie.  It was hard as hell to quit, and I wanted to give in so many times, but I didn't.  I had made up my mind that this was it, and the support I got on this site was invaluable.  And now I am free and it is wonderful.

Having said that, I can never be complacent.  Stories like yours are a real wake up call.  It just goes to show that one time, one place, one situation can cause a slip, which can lead to the return of a full blown addiction.  I went through so much, and worked so hard, that I never want to go through it again.  So thanks for sharing your story.  We can all learn from each other.

Are you planning on using any NRTs?  If so, you might want to read through some of the forums to see what people liked and didn't like about various NRTs.  There is some really great information on this site.

I'm so glad you decided to quit smoking again, Lue.  Keep posting, and let us know how you are doing.

    Hi Lue,

Welcome to the smokers helpline forums. Congratulations on your decision to go smoke free and in setting your quit date. I quit smoking seven weeks ago after decades of smoking and I am enjoying all the benefits of my new life style. Before I quit, I made a list of all the reasons to leave smoking behind and I set up a bucket list of rewards. These are my motivators and I refer to them from time to time.

I hope you will continue coming to the forums for support.
