One full day down! So proud of that! Running into problems now. I’m so used to my cigarette before bedtime. The cravings are very strong so I’m using the gum. Earlier this morning I was around a lady who was smoking and the smell of her cigarette was so good. I wanted a cigarette right then. I had a price of the nicotine gum and it wasn’t the same as smoking but it made it a tiny bit easier to fight off the craving.

    Hi Tanyat,

There are definite times and activities that became associated with smoking and were reinforced by repetition over the years. The psychological addiction is as strong as the physical. For me, the very worst time is the mornings. I was so used to having a coffee and cigarettes (plural) to start my day that it became a fixed part of my life.

When I quit smoking five weeks ago, I also had to quit coffee because of that close association. I changed to green tea, something that had no association with smoking. After meals is also associated with lighting up. I have changed that to popping in a piece of trident or excel gum which in itself has become an enjoyable ritual.

This morning I had an incredible craving so had an NRT lozenge and the craving passed. I find drinking water and juice also helps a lot.

    Wishing you all the best!

    Eagerquit

    Good Afternoon tanyat,

Great job making it through that first day! So glad you came by to share your cravings yesterday evening - so many people experience those cravings associated with certain times of the day or activities. Good for you for reaching for a piece of gum instead!

Hope you are doing well today and hope to hear from you soon!

Way to go!  It was hard, but you did it!  Sounds like a great choice to go for the gum..not a cigarette.   Hang in there I'm day 2, it's not easy but the road will get less bumpy.  Maybe Try changing up your routines, I find it helps
