    First Time Post --

20 year habit. Tired sneaking out, Tired of my clothes smelling like smoke, Tired of how my body and chest feel. As much as I LOVE smoking .. I know it's time to stop.

It's been only a 4 days' going cold turkey and I just feel like crap. Has a terrible night of sleep. I feel like I'm coming down with a bad cold and I'm little concerned that I feel light headed.

    Is this NORMAL ?

    Krasyal,

I quit cold turkey as well so I know what you are going through.

Day 4 you are right smack in the middle of hell week. The good news is that nicotine is out of your system, and  even though your body is screaming for nicotine, it is starting to heal already.

Day 3/4 I had wicked headaches, couldn't sleep and felt generally out of sorts. I thought 'great on top of dealing with withdrawal I'm getting sick too'. Nope - it was all part of the withdrawal.

After day 4 you will start getting better. A lot of symptoms will not get worse. You've still got a ways to go, but if you've done 4 days might as well just keep going.

    Hi Krasyal, and welcome.

'Normal' is quite a subjective word.  I can tell you that I experienced sleep disruption for quite some time when I quit.  I experimented and found a routine that offered some relief.  My head also felt funny - like sort of a fog.  At times it felt like a hangover, without any alcohol involved.  Now that sucked!  Things did get better.  It just takes time for our bodies to adjust chemically and psychologically.  Make sure you are eating well and watch the blood sugar levels.  Are you eating a good breakfast?  Many of us noticed we actually had an appetite in the mornings after we quit.

Smoking is not a habit, it's an addiction.  And like any addiction, it can be beaten.  We're glad you're here.  Stay close and we'll help you every step along the way.

    E

    Thanks --

It's a pretty crazy thought to know that this addiction has me feeling this way.

I think you hit it right on -- I feel like I have a really bad hangover.

Works has been a daze and I just can't really focus much and physically I just feel awful.

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

    Hi krasyal1975,

Give yourself some credit.  It hasn't been only four days, it's been A WHOPPING FOUR DAYS!!!  That is a wonderful achievement and you should be proud of yourself.  It's not easy to quit when you have been smoking for years.  You are going to go through a lot of different withdrawal symptoms.  But they are all normal, so hang in there.  Just take it one step at a time.  I know you feel lousy right now, but eventually, you will start to feel a lot better.  Smoking weighs you down physically and emotionally.  It is so nice not to have to sneak around any more, and not to worry about stinking of smoke.  Trust me, it is very freeing.  Keep on fighting, because it is so worth it.

Krystal these are all symptoms of Nictotine withdrawal!  An excellent indication as to how you're succeeding with your quit.   20 years of smoking means it's time to quit now. :)  Try googling about nicotine withdrawal or read through the old posts on this site for more info on this.  Also, don't forget to see your doctor for help with this quit, he might be able to give you some medications to get through smoothly with your withdrawals.

Hi Everyone - you have been sharing some great advice and motivation with our newest member!
Krasyal1975, we are so happy you reached out to the community forum. As many of your 'cheerleaders' have mentioned, day 3 or 4 is usually the peak of withdrawal symptoms. As crappy as you feel now, there are some great benefits that your body is going through...
    • 72 hours having your last cigarette: your lung capacity will increase and your bronchial tubes will relax, so breathing and exercising will get easier.
Stay strong and take things one day at a time. Also, remember to reward yourself - set small goals and little rewards along the way (i.e. treat yourself after the first week!)

    Sincerely,
    Nadia B.

    Appreciate the support.

Had to visit the Dr. Today.
Thr coincidence if quitting and just how awfyi felt I just wanted to to make sure everything was ok.

Turns our - I developed strep throat.

Good news - I still have not had a cigarette and to be honest - the strep throat as made my cravings a bit more manageable - at least for today.

Just don’t believe developing strep throat and quitting is a coincidence :)
