Don't know what it is but I quit smoking on December 30th, 2018 and have, in the past couple of weeks, had such cravings to light up! Anyone else had this happen? Any suggestions on how to eliminate the cravings. Is it because the weather is getting nicer and soon you can sit outside and
enjoy a coffee and smoke? I don't know, but it's a tough time right now.

    Hey Janet,
Just got back in from a day at work and I see your post and I'm thinking - wow, glad i'm not the only one! I've heard there is something call the 3's of quitting, 3rd day, 3rd week, 3rd month - when you get really tested.
I quit Jan.01 and I last had a real bout of 'cravings' at the one month mark. The last few days I have been getting that addict in my head whispering to me again 'one smoke won't hurt' 'it's so nice out today, wouldn't a smoke feel good?'
I think it has to do with getting a bit complacent about our quit, still learning how to be a non-smoker and the nicer days! Cold and snowy weather makes it a bit easier to stay in and not miss smoking.
The fact is though - it is all mental now. The physical addiction is long past. Simple but so darn hard.
I've been chewing more gum and drinking more water lately to kind of curb those cravings. Thinking about starting to go for a run in the mornings to work off some of the weight I gained since quitting.

    hi Janet

Way you did ok for 3 months, you can do it one day more!
Cravings are normal, even do with low pressure, change of whether, circumstances etc....
The question is How you prepare to affront that moment?
    - Distract your self from that moment, do something instead….
    -Drink water or Juice
-go for a walk, enjoy wile you walk...
    - Enjoy the fresh Air, coming into your lungs.
    - I am sure you will find something healthy to do or eat instead that moment, the craving will go away or will be less powerful!

Are you using any NRT, it might help you to be more confident!

Hang in there, you can do it!

    Hello janetpaulaj,

First, congratulations on quitting smoking and staying smoke-free! You are doing great!

What you are feeling is normal, and something we hear from many of our clients. The 3 day, 3rd week, and 3rd month seem to be difficult benchmarks, as atp has shared (and seems to be experiencing too). It seems this is complicated further by your desire to enjoy the weather, but it will get better!

Thank you to atp and brieffree for providing some great suggestions on how to curb cravings. Quit aids like nicotine replacements (NRT) also could help. Have you been using them for this quit?

If you have further questions or want to talk to a quit coach we encourage you to call a quit coach at 1-877-513-5333.

Is there a way to speak with somebody on skype?  How do I get involve into the forums? I have to quit absolutely. I just start patches but I still smoke 3 cigarettes a day, which make me feel really guilty and so so mad at myself.  I have to admit, it's so hard because I have many health problems so my head is spinniing like a BINGO BALL.  Always thinking at my problems!!!  THAT TYPE OF LIFESTYLE HAS TO STOP.  Please I really really need help and someone to talk to.  I have absolutely nobody to talk!   Thanks a lot   Jovie

Thank-you! I am using Champix and have been on it since November. Last night I didn't take the before bedtime one as I have not been able to get a solid sleep since taking them. Great sleep last night. Don't know how long you're suppose to be on these pills, but they obviously helped a lot at my 3 month mark of quitting. I will continue on these meds since they are obviously helping in the quit smoking process. I am happy to say I have been smoke free since Dec. 30th. Breathing is so much better and I feel proud of myself for coming this far.

Congrats on your 3+ month quit date, janetpaulaj! Its amazing how quickly the body starts to heal, and its so motivating to feel the benefits of your quit, such as better breathing.
Chat with your health care professional about how long to stay on Champix.

And to echo brieffrees information (thanks brieffree!), Jovie: welcome to Smokers Helpline. Looks like you've connected with our online forums, and we certainly would welcome you to call our Helpline at 1-877-513-533 (Mon-Thurs 8am-9pm; Fri 8am-6pm, and Sat/Sun 9am-5pm) to speak about your smoke-free journey with one of our Quit Coaches.
We also have text message and email support too.
    All the best
    Sarah
