Hello all!  This will be my 5th serious attempt at quitting, following a 32 year or so habit.  They do say practice makes perfect so hoping for a bit of perfection this time.
Reasons for quitting are many - but mostly because of my mom who passed away peacefully last month.  She was a 20 year lung cancer survivor, then on 4 July she developed some pain in her chest, a cough and was actually unable to mobilize at all and quite confused.  Admitted with a diagnosis of pneumonia, started on IV antibiotics following an x-ray which showed a 'small' effusion in the base of her right lung.  48 hours after treatment, still had not improved and her mobility was now nil.  She was still complaining of pain in her right side and some abdominal discomfort.  Her confusion was improving but still worrisome. Additional tests, including CT w/contrast revealed that the cancer had returned, and in fact had returned with a vengeance.  She had multiple mets - on her stomach, on her adrenal glands, on her spine (hence the decreasing mobility.  That was 15 July.  She died 7 August.  It's time - her 20 year survival gave me a false send of security - if mom could beat this I could too, if it happened to me.  She was 79 and lived next door to me.  I miss her terribly.

Hello Cindi... My heartfelt condolences for your loss.
Practice does make it easier each time for sure...we didn't learn to smoke a pack a day or more overnight.  It takes time to build up to that... You can do this, I am in my second week myself and very determined to win this time.  Use anything you can to help through your cravings, myself I use the Nicorette lozenges and a glass of water with a straw...it helps the "Hand-to-mouth" action and I use a water bottle while I drive.  You can read my story "New to this...Old hand at quitting" thread.
Best of luck and you have wonderful ppl here willing to offer help and support always :)

    Hi Cindi,

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your Mom.  I am sure that she would be happy to hear that you are trying to quit again.  Each time we try, we learn something, so past attempts are really a good thing.

You can do this, Cindi.  Be more stubborn than your addiction.

Hello Cindi - so very sorry to hear about the loss of your mum.
You are quitting for many reasons, including a way to honor your mothers memory. And your past quit attempts- the experiences you had with them, the things you liked, didn't like, and things you would tweak about those past quit attempts - will help aid you in the most current quit. Draw on your rich knowledge of what works best for you. Thank you Craig & treepeo for your support, too.
    Thinking of you Cindi,

    Sarah
