Ended up with the flu, then pneumonia. Fortunately I was unable to smoke. So bought some Nicorette gum and determined to quit. My skin reacts badly to the patch so gum it is.

    Hi Carolwl,

So sorry for your physical troubles, but you are so smart to use this as a launching point to quit smoking.  Good for you!

Holy cow, pneumonia is serious, so it is really imperative that you quit now.  Hope the gum helps you, but if you find you are needing more support, maybe speak to your doctor.  Just keep your momentum and motivation going.  You have five days under your belt, so you are halfway there.  Most people find the first two weeks the hardest.

I know from experience that we start out with the best intentions, but when we start to feel better physically, we want to go back to our old ways.  Try not to fall into that trap.  As I said, pneumonia is no joke, and going back to smoking will be devastating to your lungs.  So do whatever it takes to keep the quit.  Definitely post here to find support, and if you have any questions or concerns, or if you are feeling a bit desperate, you can always call the helpline here.  The quit coaches totally get where we are coming from, and can offer really valuable support.

Keep the quit, Carolwl.  You deserve a better life.
