Hi eagerquit,
It sounds like you have made some great changes in terms of your diet, which is terrific. But you probably made those changes over time, not all at once. I point this out because you say you have tried quitting smoking lots of time, but it never stuck. I know you feel like you are really motivated now, but just make sure you are truly prepared for what you are going to face. You will have to be willing to change some of your routines. You will have to try to avoid triggers and distract yourself. You will have to fight intense cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Are you going to quit cold turkey, or are you going to use NRTs? Are you going to be telling anyone in your family or your friends, to get their support during this process? Or are you planning on going it alone? Those are all things that you will have to consider when you quit.
I wanted to quit so badly that I thought my motivation would be enough. But it wasn't. I didn't even last two days. So I had to rethink things and do some serious planning. Then I tried again, and lo and behold, it worked.
I just want this to be a good experience for you, eagerquit. In the past, you have gotten so discouraged that you gave up quitting altogether. So I think it's important for you to really prepare for your quit, because the more prepared you are to handle the problems that will come up, the more likely you are to succeed.
Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing. I am really glad that you are giving it another go. It is really the right decision to make.
