This feels awkward to even say, but I feel like I’m at the end of my rope. First I quit 11 days ago and am handling the sleepless nights and even the cravings (I think just habitual now), but what I cant handle any longer is how bloated I am. It literally hurts! I am constipated and the bloating is making me feel so uncomfortable. Please someone give me some advice.

    Hi coopra,

No need to feel awkward.  Withdrawal causes all sorts of problems.  For you, that includes constipation.  That is what you have to tackle right away because yes, it hurts like mad.  I recommend you try using a gentle laxative to get you over this hump.  In addition, make sure you drink lots of water, and try to move around as much as you can.  All three of those things should help to relieve your constipation, and then you will feel so much better.

I also had trouble sleeping when I first quit.  I could fall asleep, I just couldn't stay asleep, and I woke up 3 times a night.  So frustrating!  So I took to having naps when I could, because I don't do well when I get too tired.  I found that I had this problem for about a month, and then it eased off.

It sounds like cravings are the least of your problems at this point, which is probably a good thing.  I hope it stays that way.

Congratulations on your 11 days smoke free.  Hang in there, and I hope the tips I included here will help you.

    Coopra,

Congrats in your quit, 11 days smoke free is wonderful.

Drink a lot water., Distract your self from the crave, go for a walk etc. Talk to someone you know about it. Use deep briefing when the craving comes and it goes away.
Try to be busy in something to forget about smokes

Good Luck! You can do this!

Thank you for the advice. I have tried all except the laxative. I think that will have to be next. I am going to ask for a recommendation from the pharmacist today. Cross my fingers it helps me because this Zi can’t take anymore. I never would have thought that quitting would cause me this battle. I thought the cravings would be my worst battle.

Laxatives are too harsh for me, but I used Colace gel stool softeners for a few days.  I was given them in pregnancy and they work great.

Coopra, the other thing I forgot to tell you is to boost your fiber intake.  If you eat cold cereals, there are several on the market that are high in fiber.  Also, make sure you have a couple of pieces of fruit each day.  That will also help to keep you regular.  I hope you have seen a pharmacist by now.  You have to tackle this problem head on before it gets any worse.

    Hi coopra,

Sorry to hear about the withdrawal symptoms that you’ve experienced. I hope that things will get better and easier for you soon. Constipation is a common withdrawal symptom after a quit and it usually goes away with time. Did you have a chance to discuss this with a doctor? Everyone here offered great strategies – drink a lot of water, add more fiber, fruits and vegetables in your diet, increase exercises etc.

coopra, hang in there. Most withdrawal symptoms will fade and go away with time. You have now 11 smoke-free days behind you – It’s awesome!

You can do this! Congratulations for all the hard work you've done to reach this day!
