Argh! Mornings are so tough for me. The Craving starts as soon as I wake up in the morning and persists through whatever I do or think of doing. This is only my second morning that I am getting through as I quit at noon 2 1/2 days ago. Not very long in the grand scheme of things. Just typing this in has helped some what. Going to read my reasons for quitting and get busy.

Get up and get busy.  Not sure of your situation, but get doing something, anything.  Take a shower - pretty tough to smoke in the shower, although I'm sure some here have tried.  And after your shower, you don't want undo the avocado scent of your shampoo and reek like cigarettes, so don't smoke then either.  Smoking in the morning has long been part of your routine.  You don't smoke anymore, so you need to change your routine.  Myself, since I've quit, I enjoy breakfast sitting at the kitchen table, relaxing.  No more running out the door without eating.

You mention coming on this forum helps, maybe you need to add that to your morning routine.

Congratulations for coming back - We're all here to help you this time.

Thanks efreeman for your reply. It really helped and so did the shower. My new morning routine is going to take some practice. Off I go to get busy.

My new morning routine includes making oatmeal.

Not the instant stuff. Real steel cut oats that take 20 minutes to cook.

I stand there stirring those oats and focus on making an amazing oatmeal.

Whatever it takes to keep you occupied is what works!

    Hello dcragg65 and atp,

Congratulations to dcragg65 on cutting your smoking in half and making changes with your smoking! It is significant to have reduced as much as you have!

As atp shared, making new routines and keeping yourself occupied can be especially helpful with managing cravings. An important part of staying smoke-free is controlling your surroundings and learning to deal with temptations to smoke. Mornings are often a difficult time for many; it's certainly not just you.

Glad to see that making amazing oatmeal is working for you atp! Sounds delicious.

    Keep up the great work,
    Kate R
