    Quit December 3, 2018

No special day, just wanting to quit again! First quit was Sept 8/16, relapsed 9 months later in June 2017. Quit again on Nov 13/18 & relapsed after 10
    days.

Biggest reason for quitting the first time was I hated the stink & the money I was wasting.

This time round those same reasons & better health. After quitting that first time my body got use to being healthier, so when I went back to smoking it affected my health, some wicked chest infections breathing issues & headaches.

I wasn’t happy about relapsing after being smoke free for 9 months, who does that? Nice to read/know others have done just that too!

    Hi Chesk,

I started having health issues, accompanied by severe pain & relapsed. However the biggest reason is I just wasn’t working my recovery enough.

A Big Congratulations to you on how far you have come, keep going strong on your smoke free journey!

Here I go again but not on my own ... I love Whitesnake!
I am back. Quit date today, March 25th, 2019. Stopped smoking as of midnight last night and have all my supports in place. Just have to make sure the patch will be ok with my new vertigo meds. So far so good! One Day At A Time (ODAAT) and Not One Puff Ever (NOPE). Thank you all for being here. Without you I wouldn't even have made it the 11 days I did (March 1st). Each and every time I am better prepared, learning from all my prior errors. So glad we are all on this journey together. I need you all! Congrats to all with smoke-free time. You all are my inspirations! We got this!! <3

    Hi all,

Has anyone taken on quitting now that summer is here again? Would love to hear if any of you had recent quit dates or are planning for a summer quit soon! Of course different seasons pose different challenges, but some people find being able to get out for walks and stay active makes it easier to keep their mind off of smoking.

Don't forget you can also register for our free trial nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) packs at the "Trial offer" tab at the top of the page. Those include two Step 1 nicotine patches and 15 pieces if nicotine gum. Could be just what you need to get you through the first few days of your quit.

Let us know those of you who have summer quit dates when you are planning for.

    Grace

"Got To" I Feel the same way To it has a pull on us but once we get our freedom back the little devil/angel on our shoulders can talk loud.

August 8, 2019 was the day I quit smoking (cold turkey). I pray everyday this will be the last of my multiple quits. I feel so much better already. It’s amazing how one does not realize how awful it feels to smoke until you are not smoking anymore. One thing I know for absolute certain- I much prefer being a non-smoker.

April 1, 2020 for me. Yes this is the first day.  I’m using the patch along with gum as a substitute.  So far so good being it’s 2pm.
Update!!!  Day 2 and going strong. I find 2mg Thrive when I’m craving really helps. THe nice weather is a bonus as well. I will succeed.

Day 12 for me. I was a smoker for 30 years with many quits before. I feel like this is it. I’m ready. Not saying I don’t talk myself off the ledge about 20 times a day or more!!  Although I have failed in the past I know I can’t have even one puff. The cycle will start again and I’ll be on the ledge again.  My past failures where always drinking. I’m going to quit smoking. I am not depriving myself a beer on a sunny afternoon. Ive waited for months and failed. Soooo while I have the will power and drive I’m  going to do all the normal things and just not smoke.

My quit date was October 15th 2018.

I chose it because my pack went up in price twice and I was fed up. I started researching nicotine gum and patches, online resources and I started feeling motivated to quit. SO I capitalized on those feelings and set a date 3 days from then so I hopefully wouldn't change my mind. I haven't had a cigarette since. It's hard, and it's good.

My quit date was 6th December 2021.

I had been thinking about quitting for quite a while but always ended up making an excuse and walking to the shop like a slave to the addiction. Finally I just got it into my head smoking my last cigarette that I needed to stop and not smoke anymore. I had several attempts before but never got past 3 months. If I used the patch when I came off them it became too difficult with cravings or with Champix I thought to myself I could just be the occasional smoker. This time I used the mist as well and that seems to have gotten me through. I don't ever wanna have to go through this withdrawing process again. Its horrible. Onwards and upwards. Day 100 coming soon.

    Quit date July 23rd 2022
2 days in and using the Stop on the Net program by the CAMH.
    Which means NRT.
I am hoping that once I finish this process I will not have a bad withdrawal from the nicotine.
I am determined to kick this terrible addiction

Hi smartdog:  One thing I do that really helps me in "weak moments" is to read through the Smokers Helpline file I created.  It consists of print outs from the Cancer Society, pages I've printed from people who post here or notes I've made from people's posts, a few miscellaneous quotes, and some of my own thoughts.  When I read through the file, what that does is support and strengthen my rational thought over the emotional.
NRT is a great help, as are all the people on this site.  Keep coming back, and remember NOPE.

My quit date is today (again). I keep relapsing but I know that if I keep trying I haven't failed. My mantra today is "one is too many and a thousand is never enough." I am three years sober as of October 4th. If I can do that, I can do anything.

    Hi rowan,

Thanks for sharing your quit date and congratulations on making another attempt. This must be very important to you. You have a wonderful attitude towards quitting and I love your mantra! Sounds like you have some experience with quitting and that you have learned a lot from previous attempts. Relapses are really common and a normal part of the journey and when they are used as learning opportunities, they can really help you plan and strategize which can help to propel you forward!

    We believe in you!

    Warm regards,
    Karen, Quit Coach

    Hi bradde38,

Congratulations on being smoke free for 10 years! That is quite an accomplishment!

You have picked a new quit date for yourself and have reached out for support. It's very positive that you are trying again. Some tips might include making a list of coping strategies. Look at those that helped you in the past. Review your list of reasons for wanting to be smoke free and keep it close at hand. Consider using nicotine replacement therapy (nrt) to help manage cravings and ease symptoms of withdrawal. Continue to reach out for support or call a quit line. One way to head off a relapse is to practice handling some possible situations that might tempt you to smoke, so you will be prepared for them. The key to managing urges is to plan ahead!  And finally, continue to visit the forum often. It's a wonderful place to come if you are looking for tips and strategies as well as motivation and support.

    Hope this helps!

    Warm regards,
    Karen, Quit Coach

My quit date is today! Just finished several stressful days finding a car and getting it safetied. As well as moving my girlfriend in. I chose today because those stressful things are done and the change in my life will help break up my regular routines some. Hopefully helping me quit smoking a little easier.
