Today.  March 12th, 12 days before my 41st birthday.

Actually it was 11:30 Am, so I have actually gone 4 hours without smoking.

I quit for 2 years in 2003, and again in 2012.  I'm not going back this time.

    Hi Sarah,

Thanks for asking. My quit date was eight days ago on March 7. That was the day I ran out of cigarettes and didn't bother buying more. I had a supply of NRT lozenges and gum so that has been my quitting aid. As the cravings lessen, I have been letting up on them and replacing them with small candies and regular gum to keep my mouth busy.

My blood pressure was always an issue in the past at the upper end of normal and occasionally high. I have taken my blood pressure twice since at Shoppers Drug Mart. The first time it was at the better end of normal and today it is actually in the Optimal range. I feel great. I hope you enjoy the song of celebration below.

    Eagerquit

See the sun shinning in the window,
Time to start a new day. Can't you hear the song bird singing?
They're gonna sing out loud and say:

It's a beautiful day for running in the sun,
A beautiful day has just begun.
A beautiful day to do what I want to do-o-o-o.
It's a beautiful day just to be alive,
A beautiful day so glad that I've got
A beautiful day and I'd like to share it with you!
I'd like to share it with, you!

Look around there's a world of beauty,
From the mountains to the sea.
And there's a wonder around every corner,
Awaiting there for you and me

My quit date was in January, I was doing okay for a few weeks then slipped up.  I just reset my new quit date for today.  I am using  the patch and lozenges for strong cravings.  Over the past four months, I have made some changes to my routine, example  Monday through Friday I go for a four mile walk in the mornings.  I am hoping this will help me.  I have set up a support system this time so if I am having a hard time I can call on them.  Lastly I thought I'd better use this site to help me, if think it will help reading others thoughts and ideas and maybe their struggles too.  Hilda1234

My quit date was March 5 2018.  26 days smoke free.
I prepared for a year and each time I set a quit date I couldn't do it.
then on March 5 there was a snowstorm and I had one cigarette left and a whole box of Nicorette.
So I quit and I feel good physically, although that took 2 or 3  weeks.  Now the emotional stuff is becoming tough for me.  I'm gonna persevere and deal with it head on.  Meditation, relaxation techniques, and exercise. I'm doing this - I'm not going back to smoking.  I AM STRONGER than the addiction.

    Hi Abby,

Congratulations on being smoke free for 6 whole days.  That's terrific!  I know how hard it is to get through the first part of a quit, so give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done!

My quit date was 2 Jan 2015.  It was a struggle for a while, but I have been able to remain smoke free!!  Added bonus is that I no longer drink alcohol because it is so closely linked to cigarettes for me.  Double health benefits!!!

My quit date is 1 week away!  August 20.   I'm taking Champix and have been successful so far in cutting my smoking back about 1/3 and am moving towards 1/2 over the next couple of days.  I want to be down to just a few cigarettes a day by my quit day.  I was a pack a day smoker.

My quit date is in a week, September 24th.

I have stopped many, many times in the past. For as long as 10 years! The past few years have been difficult with quitting and starting up again.

I am tired of being a slave to this addiction!

My quit day was September 7th and its still really rough I don't have cravings but I feel like I have the flu and am anxious and actually nauseated ? I am also feeling very exhausted and overwhelmed ...just managing work is really a challenge trying to drink more water and lots of ginger and peppermint tea  ...eating is hard and getting up in the morning. This site has helped me realize these are normal symptoms except the nausea ... also the first few days were really easy seems crazy

I have not picked a quit date. I had 10 cartons of smokes (I'm always well stocked with smokes in case of an apocalypse, lol), that is now down to 3 packs. I sucked in a lot of cigarettes in a short time. I'v done that panic chain smoking has I convinced myself these are the last smokes ever for me. My date is 3 packs of 20 from now. At 1 pack, I am to start the cleanup. Washing all my coats, clothes, detailing my vehicle and any other cigarette crumbs I may have laying around. I have an appointment with a pharmacist in the 1st week of January to look at possible cessation aids. I do have E-cigarettes on wait if I need between my last pack and my 1st appointment. I do not want the E-smoke to become an option, so it's just here to fill the gap. I have chest and sinus x-rays in Jan. I believe smoking has been the root cause of my year round infections. I start to see a Social Worker in January. I'v already started to have longer soaking baths with Epson salt, coconut oil & rose essential oils. I have collected music that helps me relax so I can go to it when I need and breath deeply while listening to it. I people watch non smokers and imagine me as a non smoker in the same type of settings. It's like 1 big & long hug goodbye for me. I'm scared, I admit; but, I am also excited. I'v smoked almost my whole life. I remember smoking in the grocery stores, doctor's offices, buses and more. Like being in a really bad abusive relationship with cigarettes. I need the rest of my life to belong to me now. I need to stop poisoning myself. At least I wont stink like a dirty ashtray anymore.

My quit date was October 9, 2018.  It was both easier and harder than what I thought it would be.  The first two weeks were probably the worst, and the thought of smoking (or rather no) was all consuming, and every day.  After the first two weeks it definitely got easier every day.  I never thought I could quit smoking and always said that I wouldn't.  Then in September, I just had a complete about face, and said I would quit October 2nd.  I extended that date by a week because of a medical procedure that I was nervous about, and haven't looked back since October 9th.  For any new quitters, just do it.  If you really want to quit and have the right mindset, that you are not giving up something, but you are making a choice to rid yourself of something that is so very harmful to you, you can do it.  Be positive, be strong, and know that whatever you put your mind to, you can do it.

I am 3 weeks smoke free! I have saved almost $300 and not smoke over 450 cigarettes!

One thing I realized tonight is I used to spend more monthly on cigarettes than my car payment.

I will never take another puff! To everyone keep up the good fight.

    Quit January 01, 2019.

First time I tried to quit was when my first son was born in 1995.
Then again in 1999 with birth of second son.
2005 when my first son turned 10
2008 because I was just plain tired of smoking
2012 when my younger brother passed away from cancer at age 41.
2015 during a tough period in my marriage and trying to show I can change.
There's a few other weaker attempts as well in between all of the major ones.

My dad died from cancer, at age of 47, when I was 9.

All of those prior quits lasted less than a week. I just wasn't ready to quit.

Finally at Christmas I decided that seeing my younger son, who is now 19, smoking was not good. I offered to quit to push him to quit. I was ready to quit already as last few months I was often just having half a smoke and butting it out. He did quit as well!

Read up everything I could about quitting, joined this site. Was finally determined.

32 years of smoking. 24 years of trying to quit. Now at 50 I finally am doing it.

Married to my wife for 26 years, plus we were together 5 years prior (met in college). She realized some years ago she could not push me to quit, but was so supportive of me when I finally did.

Every day is a commitment to keep my quit another day.
