As I start into the fourth day smoke free this afternoon I am feeling less edgy. The mornings are definitely more intense than the afternoons.
I found an article that explores the heavy metals contained
in cigarettes, particularly cadmium and lead. It also touches on the chemical
sprays on the tobacco plants.
Cigarettes contain a concentration of heavy metals including
cadmium and lead. Cadmium becomes stored in the bones, liver and kidneys
causing kidney damage and fragile bones. Lead causes impaired fetal growth and brain development. In a documentary I saw, it noted the ancient Roman elite suffered from lead poisoning as a result of their lead water pipes and they even added some to their diet. It
caused them brain impairment and hastened the empire’s fall.
On the tobacco plantation, the plants are sprayed with
herbicides, insecticides and fungicides to control various parasite and plant
diseases. These chemicals are in the cigarettes we buy.
That article definitely makes me want to stay smoke free.
